    Possibly Paranoid Precaution

Hi everyone! I'm on my first grow, but I want to leave as little to chance, and to my own non seasoned knowledge and abilities, as possible, so I hope that the vast wealth of experience here can help out!

-This part is just everything I've done in case it has something to do with my question.
My seeds are currently about 7 1/2 days from sprout. I've got some Blackjack and Strawberry cough, but I'm gonna be focusing on the two that are the most promising. They were sprouted from a general hydroponics rapid rooter tray, and transferred to solo cups with roots organics original potting soil. I have a general organics grow box, but I haven't started using any of it yet. Many holes have been made at the bottom for drainage. They're being given 24 hours of light under a t5 fixture. I've been watering with unfiltered, 135 ppm tap water, ph'd down to 6.3-6.7, pretty normally, as in when the top inch seems dry. I've also been misting them with a spay bottle twice a day to keep humidity up. In my last watering (day 6 1/2), I added some seaweed extract to the water (At full strength without thinking) and phd accordingly.

I noticed that the underside of each plant had a dark spot on the underside, though that could just be a thicker part blocking the light, and I also noticed that the newest leaves on the blackjack seemed oddly dark.

The underside still has the dark center, but the new blackjack growth is brighter.

Overall, the new growth looks a lot better to me. The undersides don't have dark spots, and they're just more lush and green. The black jack still worries me though. The dark green parts didn't go away, so much as they've become just a smaller part of the leaves. little lines along the grain. There's also this odd part of the leaf that looks like it's creasing, shown here. (on the right) http://i.imgur.com/g655mgW.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8cfRaVW.jpg

All in all, these things might not even be problems, but if there's any chance they could become problems in the future, I'd like to fix it before it's broken. Any comments, questions, or critiques would be welcome, thank you!

*On a side note, is there any way to slow down the growth of one of them without harming it? I though growing them together would be fine, since they're both hybrids, but it seems like the Cough is already showing it's sativa dominance, growing taller and a bit less dense than the Blackjack. If I can, I'd like to make them both reach optimal height for the stretch. If not, I'll just do the normal thing of raising one/bending the other down, I suppose.

First of all they all look good to me. Looking at the leaf "glow" from under the plant is kind of like an x ray and I think that the variation is just due to chlorophyll density. From the top it looks like dirt and maybe a water stain? No worries! I don't think it is a good idea to try to slow down a plant. What breeder did you get your seeds from? Looking at the genetics from various sources shows a heavy Sativa on the Blackjack and some Sativa/Indica on the Strawberry Cough. It is too early to tell how the phenotypes will be but they will be different based on the base genetics.

Yep, I think bricks will help you out! just stack bricks under the shorter plant's container and use training techniques to keep the canopy even under the lights.

First off, thanks for the advice! All seeds are from seedsman, but the breeders are Nirvana for the Blackjack and Dutchpassion for the cough. From a bit of looking I think I read that cough is 80/20 sativa and black jack was 70/30 indica. My observations about the shape could just be me jumping the gun, though. I've been very on top of these plants, perhaps a little more than is necessary, or possibly even is healthy! Guess I've got the new grower fever : D

Here are some good links about the origins of your strains: Blackjack and Strawberry Cough. The Strawberry Cough has three known phenotypes after it gets older you will be able to determine which one you are growing.

An engaged grower is a better grower.

They look great. Mine are only a week from sprout, yours looks ahead of the game compared to mine.

Hey they both look really good! The blackjack looked like it was maybe getting to much water at first but corrected itself out! They look pretty dense, definitely keep us posted!

First grows are always the hardest on growers. Stay diligent but remember to relax a little and enjoy the grow! This is a great place for good information and everyone is more than willing to hold your hand when needed. Lord knows they have done that for me!!! 😊

They all look great! You're doing a great job! You never want to slow down a plant, but if it does get taller than the other one you can use bending/training to make sure they stay about the same height. Indoors, it's okay if one plant is bigger as long as they stay around the same height, which you have complete control over!

              Update:

Thanks for all of the replies! I just kept an eye on them and they kept growing! I even gave them a 1/4 strength nutes on day 8 1/2. Sadly, I wasn't focusing at one point, and the agrobrite t5 fixture fell down on one side, nicking my favorite cough :c but she seems to be handling it well. This is them on day 10 1/2

I didn't want to risk overgrowing them in the solos, so on day 11 1/2 I moved them over to 3 gallon containers. I also changed to my metal halide bulb. It's a 1000w bulb,b but I'm running it at 600 for the moment. They have an average 35000-42000 lux all around. After this, however, I made an error. the next day, the pots seemed dry to me, so I watered them with a mixture of seaweed extract and recharge phd to 6.8. I think I was just feeling new soil, because I didn't wet it before putting the plants in, so they were in a solo sized wet soil with the rest of the container dry. the blackjack started wilting and getting some discoloration from overwatering, but I decided to give it a day. I took these the next day.

It's better than the previous day, but still wilting and discolored. I took these just a few minutes ago.

I'm having a hard time telling if the ailment is still over watering, or if it's just dying for some nutes now. I'm not sure how to tell the difference :c I want to do what's right for them as soon as I can. I'm planning on main lining, and they're at 4 nodes, so I want to make sure they're healthy by the 6th one. Thanks again!

Edit: I didn't think of this before, because I had the lux measured out and thought it was okay, but my light has been closer than the recommended distance for 600 watts. around 9 inches or so. I've been checking the lux daily to make sure it is within the acceptable numbers, and I have two fans going in there, as well as a good exhaust fan on max, but maybe it's still not enough. I'm going to move it to 12 and see what happens, replies would still be appreciated, though!
