Hang a flytrap in your grow room and sprinkle some diatomacious earth on top of your soil.

Do you see tiny black flies buzzing around your soil? Learn how to get rid of this common yet annoying pest again quickly.

This tutorial will work on most flying insects.

I had fungus gnats and they are black. Here's Nebula's page on white flies:

Learn how to identify and get rid of white flies and prevent this common indoor plants pest from ever attacking your cannabis again.

I got rid of them by switching, first to good quality soil (Fox Farms) and then to coco coir. Hate gnats! If you don't get rid of them before the final weeks of flowering, the sticky trichomes act like fly paper and the little buggers stick to the bud and die - but they don't have the decency to fall off! No, you have to smoke your bud with dried gnats. Not the kind of bbq I'm partial to.
I like big buds and I can not lie.

I've heard that gnats are NOT a viable source of protein.

Interesting, I actually RECEIVE my gnats from that soil, albeit the perforated bags probably allow the bugs in the local grow shop to move in. Be aware of bugs when you buy. One shop here stores soil outside in a barn but the other has it inside all nice and climate controlled.
Look into "bud washing" by DocBud. Prominent online artist that is easy to find. Uses a 3 step rinse, warm hydrogen peroxide, cold lemon juice, cold water. It's kinda nuts when you try to wrap your mind around it but it gets rave reviews when people actually do it. Gets rid of everything nasty you don't want to smoke like dust, hair, mold and powdery.
Haven't tried it yet but I should have enough to give it an honest trial in a few weeks.

You can also try these gnat sticks and put them in the pots right at the soil base. They act like flytraps right by the soil: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They aren't gnats: they are whiteflies.
