    Is this true??

Just saw a video where grower took pH of water going in. Then he took pH of water coming out. He said soil pH is halfway between those two numbers. I always thought my soil pH was the reading I got from the run off water, period.

Did I misunderstand? Which is correct?

He probably is right, in soil there is lots of buffering going on, it also depends on when you take your first runoff reading, right at the first runoff or middle of your runoff or at the end of runoff, rarely will they be the same.just try to make sure it stays in the zone it's supposed to be in, an you should be fine. Good Luck Spanky. HappyHolidays

im pretty sure what they mean is if you water with ph 8 and the runoff comes with a ph of 7 then the soil ph should be 6 in order to lower the water ph and meet in the middle, so the soil ph is at an equal distance from the water starting ph but in the opposite direction, makes sense? it is not a perfect method but it kinda works, this is not taking into consideration ppm and water hardness. in theory if you water with 0ppm distilled water the runoff should be what the soil ph is

I’m growen in smart pots, and using f.f.o.f. Soil I am able to ph my soil by sinking my pots in phed water till full and drain.
i test the runoff if it’s in range I leave it if not I adjust the ph and sink again until I get it right ! Lol

Sounds like confirmation bias to me.

Long story short version, from personal experience this is not true outdoor. In large 60+ gallon pots anyway.
