    LEC and heat

Okay gang, please indulge me... I got a nice home grown/ local brew buzz going and have a guestion. Just started an enlarged grow space with new 315 LEC light and struggled with temps too high during seedling stage. Even resorted to buying an air cooled hood to get temps in desirable range. Started out perfect. Now that I have been running new LEC lamp for almost two weeks, temps have dropped to the mid and lower 70's when lights are on and 4" exhaust fan is set on low. I took the glass cover off the enclosed hood (LEC's don't emit UV light through glass) and temps seem to have adjusted to the high 70's. Long story short... do LEC lamps have a "break in" period and then level off?

    DIY grow space 2.5' X 3.5' X 6.5'
    315 LEC
6" Vortex exhaust fan w/speed control
    6" Carbon filter
    3- 6" fans
    humidifier
    temp and humidity gauge
5 gal smart pots w/ FFOF soil
    FF trio nutrients

I've got two of the Phantom 315 LECs ,1 double ended 630 , haven't had any issues like that temps hold pretty steady, that 630 double-ended puts out less heat than my 400w HPS did. However mine are in fairly large flower rooms. Has anything else changed, it is winter time just a couple degrees difference on the outside could make a difference on the inside of the tent. Just my two cents ☮️

Never heard of a breakin period for them but they do lose efficiency over time. I think the bulbs last two to three years.

No break in period needed. How are the temps if you turn off the vents?

Temps seem to be holding steady (upper 70's) with lights on. Down to high 60's with lights off. Yes, Winter is coming and outside temperatures are dropping but my grow space is in my basement with constant temps and that is where I draw my make up air. I didn't think outside temps would have that much effect on my set up but Lord knows I have been wrong before!!

Morning PuravidaC, an happy Thanksgiving, I asked the same exact question about break-in period, I also asked if some bulbs run much hotter than other bulbs, when I had my other 315cmh that did ok for a week or so, then it kept getting hotter an hotter so I sent it back.
GrowersChoice told me the had no break -in, and my light needed to be sent back ,which I did ,and the one I have now doesn't run hot at all, even when it's turned to the super lumen switch, but I haven't had it long enough to no if it's gonna stay running cool or not, but GrowersChoice said that it wasn't going to get any hotter, and they are right so for.

And Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! My issue isn't that lamps are too hot, even though they started out hotter than expected, but they seem to have cooled down. Crazy, I know but as I sit here enjoying some homegrown it has occurred to me that this is just the trials and tribulations we all go through doing what we enjoy! I'm still getting my new grow area dialed in!
