Basically there are two types of hard water. The one full of useful minerals including calcium and magnesium and iron and such. This is good for your plants and will do very good job as a "cal-mag" when mixing with RO water or simply soft water. But there's the second kind of hard water that has a lot of chlorine chloramine or insane amounts of sodium (used as a water "softener") this is usually the treated city water with a bunch of harmful chemicals for the plants that have no impact on human consumption (like the sodium)
