My question is should I count the first set of leaves after the cotyledon as a node?

21 days from sprout. Early growth stunted from mobile coco mistakes. Since fixed. White widow photo period.


50/50 coco perlite
temp control @ 28°C(room temp normally is 26)
Hunidity 65% (fluctuates between 50-70 with mean 65)
T5 durolox 8 bulb (4 on) at 15 k lumen distance
recently switched out for custom made LED board with samsung LM031H at 30k lumen distance for 1 day now. (Cree UVB and IR but wont be turned on until bloom)
high frequency fertigation using advanced nutrients

If you are doing a true manifold, take off the 1st and 2nd set of Nodes off, leave the third for your two branches.
The first set counts.

I don’t start counting nodes until the first set of 3 serrated leaves appear. That’s the 3rd set of leaves which I consider to be node one. The two sets below that are really just starter leaves which will eventually fall off on their own. Doing a manifold I’ve found that if you count the starter leaves as nodes 1&2 the plant isn’t old enough to withstand the serious amount of stress it takes to setup the manifold and gets stunted for about a week. If you wait to start counting until it grows that first set of 3 leaves then it’ll be a week or so older when it gets manifolded and it’ll recover much quicker. I’ve also found it helps to wait a couple days after making your first cut or top before removing all the growth below that node. The last few I’ve done I waited 2 days after topping to remove the lower growth and the plants never stopped growing. No stunting whatsoever
