Is musty always a bad smell

Pretty much every plant I've flowered has had a musty, almost moldy smell. There's no bud rot. At first I thought it was the soil. But once harvest was over the smell went away. It's not constant

If you are cloning the same plant over and over it will continue to have a same smell for grow to grow. Some plants stank!

Bag seed for me, Mr. F. Up close they smell musty. When they catch the breeze my apartment smells just exactly like weed.
