for reading nebula resvior maintance how to had hydro guard ph and change nutes 1 time a week seems to me more needs to be done I not have experience with resv or am I over thinking it help no light leaks
Hydroguard is all I've needed with res temps peaking at 75f this summer. There seems to be 2 methods of reservoir maintenance: colonize or sterilize. Colonize with beneficial, so any pathogen has to compete with a healthy colony already habitating the roots. Sterilize by using h2o2 or something similar to keep the root zone sterile and barren of any microbials.
For the first few weeks you don't really need to change the reservoir at all. You can just keep topping off (always using Hydroguard) by adding more nutrient water to keep the water level two inches below the bottom of the net pot. While the roots are young and getting used to the reservoir, it can cause more harm than good to completely change all the water. They need time to build up good bacteria in the reservoir, which protects them from root rot and other root problems.
After the plant is well established (about 3-4 weeks old) you can start completely changing the reservoir every 1-2 weeks. In the vegetative stage it grows like a weed and is not that picky.
In the flowering stage it's much more picky and you should change the reservoir once a week for the best results! At that point your plant will be drinking a lot, and its roots won't be sensitive to reservoir changes at all, so you can constantly give it fresh solution
The most important thing is to make sure to check the pH every day, and keep it in the 5.5-6.5 range. As long as you check the pH, use Hydroguard, top off the nutrient water, and check on your plants, you'll get good results!
