I'd say no problem. You would not be restricting airflow so go for it. Better or worse ? Not a clue.

I’m guessing you mean having a 8†duct connected to a 6†fan for example. Zero issues because there’s more room for air flow than will ever be needed.
Fun fact…in hvac applications, installers will often taper a duct down, say a 6†duct tapered down the last few feet to 4†then connected to a 4†register. It builds pressure and makes the air come out of the vent stronger 😉

Hi Bboy, do you know if restricting the output duct size, say from 6" to 4" reduces the total volume of exhaust or just increases the pressure and airflow speed?
I'm getting the AC Infinity CLOUDLINE T6 but it's problematic to route a 6" vent to the exterior due to framing issues.

That’s a good question I unfortunately do not know the answer to. I only know what I know because when I finished my basement, I ran 6†ducts to 6†registers and although I had output you could barely feel any air coming out. I researched it and found out about this trick so I tapered the last 12†to 4†with a 4†register and holy cow!!! Huge difference in output. You can feel air coming out a couple feet away where before you barely felt it with your hand against the vent.
From my own personal experience, putting a 6†exterior vent in was a damn job!!! I went through 3 6†hole saw blade putting mine in years ago. Once I got it in I realized there were 2 misplaced nails from when they built the house I was going through.
