Easy question. How long do you germinate seeds before you give up and throw them out? I'm having a hell of a time with my new Seeds Supreme seeds.
 
I tried Seed Supreme beans once; the key word is once. I germinate in the soil and in the pot the plant is staying in. I use a toothpick as a marker where my seed is. If my seed isn't up in 5 days, I will gently move the soil around till I find it. If I don't see any action I just start over with another bean. Often times right next to the one that didn't sprout and still leaving the troublemaker a few more days just in case. Almost always my beans are up in 3 days. I have given many beans a chance to sprout longer than 5 days but it's usually a bust! Also, I have tried etching the beans to help them sprout. Soaking in hydrogen peroxide and water mix. I can't say any of those tricks helped anything
 
Find a breeder close (USA) by and get your beans fresh from them. Over seas beans usually are fairly old. (They are going to send out the oldest first.) I use a seed cracker then soak 24 hours then plant. Most beans i can get to germinate but older ones take some of effort. Ive used Seed Supreme also and the same held true, hard to pop.
 
Longest 7-10 days but I usually do a hydrogen peroxide dip, soak 12-24 hours in distilled water, around room temperature,then place between 2 moist paper towels in a darkened area around 75 degrees . Then usually roots sprouted by 3 days. Then plant.
 
Thanks, guys. I'm usually a Seedsman fan. Never had any trouble. The reason I chose SeedsSupreme was because of the freebies the forum offered. I have two that I'm germing right now. It's been a week.
 
Germination has been a weak point for me. Seems like I have tried everything and haven't been satisfied with the results. The universe led me to CannaKan. It's like the paper towel method on steroids. I like it. It does what it says it will do.
 
@golfnrl I can't tell you how many seeds I've gone through trying to get some seeds to germinate. I always use 4 seeds at the time, because that is all we xan grow here in Montana. Most pop right up with no problems. But others really suck.

I did the same & purchased due to the freebie. to try another vendor. Not looking forward to any hope in germinating my purchase. Just wishing they will.
 
When I started growing I had great results germinating for years, the last year I’ve had a hell of a time. I soak 12 hours , then paper towel, usually a good seed will have a good tap root after 24-48 hours in PT. If it doesn't after 4 days it ain’t happening. It’s sooooo frustrating not to mention costly
 
IDK, when I was using a shot glass to soak I noticed when a seed sinks after about 16 -24 hours, it's generally viable. I've read that older seeds may take longer to germ than fresh seeds. What's a fresh seed? How long did the seed supplier have it before it was purchased? :unsure:
 
For me, a good bean will pop out of the soil in 3 days. No pre anything. Put the bean in the soil, water it in, cover with humidity dome (clear/colorless plastic cup). This works for me just as good as all the other tricks that I have tried over the yrs. My 2 cents worth
