    Hi Andrew
    Check out my grow journal, it covers all my defoliations (link in my signature).
    In short, I top autos after the 3rd node and strip the first node, then train those 4 main stems out in an inverted chandelier shape. I defoliate lightly throughout and tend to do 2-3 major defoliations throughout flowering.

    I do it to control the size and shape of my plants as well as to increase yield.
