      Hydroponic system
      Ok in short story....
The place where I live is not easy to get Hydroton, General Hydroponics, Rock-wool, Mylar etc.. so I improvise
I got river rocks/pebbles, and on top Id put decorative crystals as support for plant while grow
Im having problems w/ pH tester so Id order a new one
could be too much acidity in it...? (Id ad distillate white vinegar, as Id said... hard to get pH buffers)
this is the chart what Id use beside Catalyst and Meta-KClick image for larger version Name:	18871306_10203381821061792_88227289_n.png Views:	1 Size:	146.5 KB ID:	99943

Hi Smiley, welcome to the forum! She definitely looks stretched, like she's not getting enough light.

        #5
What type of lights are you using and how close are they to the plant? In hydro if the light is weak you get plants that look like they are over watered.

lights are CFL 2 x 65 equivalent of 250 each. they are 10cm from the plants...
id took them out from reservoir coz I thought the same"it could be over watering issue"
2nd Q is do I need to take my plants out from Jiffy peat or it is ok (for now)?

This is how they look at the moment Click image for larger version

Smiley, I would suggest that you make sure that no light is getting down into your reservoir through the green glass. Do you have any roots below yet, and if not, how much are you watering them? Do you check the pH of the water before you water them? And are you feeding them yet? If you aren't, I would suggest a weak feeding of nutrients, 25% of recommended amount.

Id remove the glass and i put Bonsai rocks similar to hydroton clay pallets

That glass is just support... underneath is river rocks, my pH is broken i order new one,Im using the schedule above, the roots are barely coming out so should I remove them from Jiffy peat or to keep them in?

this is how I make setup

Smiley, Just make sure that there is no light entering below; you will have problems if light gets into the reservoir. And please answer the questions I asked above.

SmileyLeaves DO NOT submerse the pots in water; the roots will drown. Let the roots come down from the pots to the water. You do have air stones, in the reservoir, no? You don't want the bottoms of the pots wet all the time.

So tell me/ guide me what should I do next beside lowering lvl of water?
Coz I am new in this thing and this is My 1st grow

          #9
Id remove green glass from pots and Id put now Bonsai rocks similar to hydroton (they are made of clay)
The light now doesnt pass to reservoir
The roots are barely visible from the Jiffy peat
Beside the pots are submerse 1 inch in water, I additionally spray them on top, 2 times a day
My pH dies 2 days ago so Id order new one,
Sorry if I miss any Q

They enter in 2nd week. This is how I feed them, according to this chart

In 3hrs when lights go back on,Ill send new photo of things I change
And tnx for your time guys

Ok....the lvl of water now is 1 inch FROM the pot (1 inch gap from water to pot)
and this is what you advise me to cover the pots...?

That's much better, Smiley!! You may have to cut the holes bigger as the stem grows, but that will keep all light out of the reservoir. I had a very bad case of brown algae in my reservoir on my last grow because the light leaks let the algae grow.

Now, the air bubbles should encourage the roots to grow down into the reservoir.

The plants initial roots are in the jiffy pot, as said you dont want to submerge or overwater this starter pot. Let it dry out before watering it again. It has suffered from lack of oxygen due to oversaturated soil. If you wet the pot too soon it will struggle to recover and could kill the roots.

Tnx buddy i took out water, now it is roughly 10-15cm air pocket from pot to water lvl.
But if i dont need to submerse pot in water... why later is ok to roots to be in water?
Sorry if the question is stupid but I dont know
              Tnx for replying

Im not experienced with hydroponics, but typically the starter mediums are not placed or submerged in water. They will usually wait until roots have developed at the bottom and place the plant in its hydroponic enclosure so the new roots only at the bottom develop into its new aquas enviroment.
If you submerge roots with a medium, the medium will not allow sufficient oxygen to reach the roots. This is akin to a pot of soil being drowned with water and no drainage at all. So you see its all about the oxygen, when the roots are allowed to freely grow into the water with no obstructive material, roots obtain oxygen more freely.

10-15cm is a little bit too much. Try 7-8cm.

SmileyLeaves The air stones supply the roots with oxygen when they grow down into the reservoir, as Dan wrote above.

Since your setup does not include "irrigation stakes" which water from the top, you will always have to hand water your plants from above. My plants get two waterings a day from the irrigation stakes. So do not keep the plants soaking when you water, but make sure the jiffy pellet is moist--not soaked. You want to encourage the roots to seek the water and grow down into the reservoir.

What is the temperature in your grow room and in your reservoir?

It cross my mind to buy water pump to make "drop by drop" but afterwards Ill do it...
Temp in grow box is 29-30c and water is 27c
I know it is too hot and i put 2 outtake fans and 1 intake....
              but thats Carribbean style maaan
Im having plan to put ice bottles of water in reservoir when I move them to flowering stage

You can put your reservoir in a larger container and add water and ice to the larger container that way you don't have to put the ice directly on your roots and freeze them.

            Hello fellow growers...
It would be selfish and rude from my side if I dont give you an update, coz when I need your help the most, you were there, so thank you again
            Now... update...
It been couple days since I didnt watered them, Id check them today and the Jiffy pot is a bit moistly

And this is how they look now...
The right one looks bit better but left one is still kind of droopy

You're welcome, Smiley. I don't understand your last question. As they get bigger and the roots grow down into the reservoir, you will gradually increase the nutrients. Also, are you using something in the water to protect against root rot? I use Great White Mycorrhizae, but there are lots of other products like it that are cheaper.

            #14
I dont use any antiroot rot.
my Q is.... what do you prefer...topping lollypoping training etc? And in what stage of growth to do?

            On another topic...
im having 2x250w veg light, but Im also planning to put two small Lights 100 Watts for budding in same combination wait White lights. I'm trying to keep my plants small but bushy
what do you think about that would it works?
