    Grow light

I just bought two 75w Philips plant light to add to my grow box and they produce a lot of heat. I have them about a 12" away but still feel heat with my hand. Is this heat necessary or should I switch to LED that has very little heat?

    Is that an incandescent bulb?

Oh yeah, you'll cook these plants with that! Use at the very least CFL's

CFL's are cheap, but they work good, just be sure you buy enough of them. LED's are getting very cheap. For under a hundred bucks you can get a 300 watt. They are the way to go if you only grow a few plants.

Agree with Doc. That "plant light" you bought looks like one that is of a spectrum used to make house plants look better but dont actually send out much useable light for the plants themselves. CFLS work pretty good but an LED, now that the price is coming down, could be better.

I would suggest you not do what I did, I have 5 different led lights! I finally got the right one! or 2 I should say! LOL Read up and see what people are saying about them. Most sites are trying to sell the fixtures. They probably all work, just some better than others.

I got these LED's $25 and $70, they are very bright and surprisingly cool.

They say that total wattage from the wall relates directly to the the outcome in weight of the product produced. So Im not sure that would be a deal at all.
