I just bought two 75w Philips plant light to add to my grow box and they produce a lot of heat. I have them about a 12" away but still feel heat with my hand. Is this heat necessary or should I switch to LED that has very little heat?

Agree with Doc. That "plant light" you bought looks like one that is of a spectrum used to make house plants look better but dont actually send out much useable light for the plants themselves. CFLS work pretty good but an LED, now that the price is coming down, could be better.Organic only soil grower

I got these LED's $25 and $70, they are very bright and surprisingly cool.
