    browning from pruning????

I'm new to growing, im starting off with an auto, which was advised by a friend due to my small grow space, and that same friend recently introduced me to pruning, i tried it on some fan leaves in the middle, i cut at the stem, and the tip of the stem where i made the cut is turning brown only at the top?? i was wondering if this is a problem and is anything going to grow from these cut stems? I'm five weeks into growing, no sex has shown yet either, would love some help, thanks!!

Welcome and good luck to you on your first grow. It is normal for a cut stem to turn brown where you cut it and even fall off the main stem after pruning if the stem is short and there are no nodes on it. The only new growth can come from a node if there is one left on the stem. Just remember to be careful not to over-prune. The fan leaves produce a lot of energy for the plant to grow and you cannot replace them once they are gone. An auto plant will stop growing new fan leaves once it starts it's flowering phase. There are great pages on the GWE site about Defoliating and training plants.
