SOIL Discoloration and strange curling on young plants.

I just moved to Colorado and just got some clones from a friend. The clones were bigger than normal due to them being kept in the clone stage for 2-3 weeks longer than usual. The clones were given to me in hydro rock wool blocks. I am having extremely low humidity in the room (hovering around 30%). I have been watering with RO water and advanced nutrients (Grow A/B, B-52, Voodoo Juice) 2mL per liter, 6.1-6.3 pH, 1100-1200 ppm/700. I have been watering approx 1 gal per plant almost everyday. I planted in smart pots using Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil. I am running Sun System ,magnum xxxl low profile lights 1000w (x4).The temperature stays 78-83 degrees.

My problem is that all the plants (some worse than others) have some yellowing and strange curling on old and new growth. I checked the roots today and they are white. They haven't grown much out of the starting block. Should I be worried about matting? Is it some kind of deficiency? Am I over feeding? Is it due to the extremely low humidity (I'm from the south where it is always humid)? Please help!!

Welcome to the forum dude 😀........everything I read seems sound apart from I would hold back on the watering a bit dude, let the soil dry out some between waterings.......if you are not sure, use the lift the pot method, i use it, they are much lighter when dry😀😀

Thanks!! I'll probably be asking a ton of questions as the environment here is way different than in the south. The pots have been drying out everyday (shoving my finger in the pot and dry an inch down and the pots are light when picked up). I'll lay off the watering and see if that helps.

I do have 4 oscillating fans in there that were blowing the plants pretty hard. I adjusted them last night and the plants look slightly better than yesterday.

So you left the ATL for CO!! I'm three hours away from ATL and I love it. Big difference in climate and culture!!!

I was seeing some clawing on my plants from the fan I installed; I turned it off and they perked up quickly. But I don't know if those yellow streaks are wind burn. I'm not expert enough to hazard a guess, but I do know that RO water can deprive plants

I agree they look a little overwatered. I agree it might help to give them maybe one additional day between waterings. Since you're using RO water, are you using a Cal-Mag supplement? It can help make up for some of the minerals that would often be found in the water. Is it possible to get the humidity a little higher, like closer to 40 or 50% RH? Also, you mentioned the pH. Have you also been checking the pH of the runoff water coming out of the bottom? For example if you're putting the pH is at 6.2 and it's coming out at 7 pH, you know there's a problem with pH at the roots. Also, is that 1000W at least 2 feet away from the top of the plants? Plants often are a little more sensitive to high light levels when they're young, and may need some time to get used to hugger intensity lights.

Thanks everyone. I'm waiting a day or two for the pots to dry out before watering again. Cal mag will start then. I put a humidifier in there yesterday but can't get the humidity up over 38%. I assume I have to much air pulling out of the room to get it any higher. The plants are looking better.

pH has been 6.1 -6.3 every time going in and the same coming out in the run off.

Is it possible to turn down the fan a little without the temperature going above 85°F? That may help bring up the humidity a little. But many plants have grown in very low humidity so it can be done with some TLC! It's a little tough in the early vegetative stage, but low humidity actually a really good thing in the second half of the flowering stage Glad to hear they're looking better!

I adjusted the fans to where they will blow in a circular pattern around the plants, not directly on them. I am going to put a humidifier in the area that air is being pulled into my room. That air stays under 30% humidity. I think the reason why my humidity is low is because I am pulling way too much air out of the room and am hoping that by bringing up the humidity in the other area that will help my room.

So today I fed with cal/mag and a full feeding. My pH going in was 6.3-6.4. pH coming out is 5.9-6.0. Is this serious and how do I rectify a problem with root zone pH?

That's not too serious. Just give water at 6.5 or 7 until it starts coming out a little higher
