    Newly harvested buds

It's been 4 days for some, 2 days for the rest. The first batch don't feel much different than the second batch. Humidity in tent is ranging between 55 and 65. Temps between 65 and 75. This part scares me more than anything I did while growing. I just don't want to screw it up.

I know buds should be able to snap from stems......since I don't really know what the bud should feel like to the touch, is there any other way to know when to put in jars other than the stem snap?

gosh i cant help you but im paying close attention. You cant rush how nature cures this stuff- if the stem doesnt snap its holding too much water and will result in longer cure- and or other possible unwanted tastes and smells. Like above, wish I had buds on a dry screen waiting for the right time- good problem to have

Once I do put in jars, I will be using the Boveda 62 two-way packets, so that will help balance things out. We seem to have had pretty good instincts thus far, so I guess I will just continue to follow my gut.

When the little stems snap. Not the big ones..

Outside of bud dry...inside not so much

I do mine the same. If you pull on the small buds, I bend them vack against the stem, if they pop right off their ready. I normally let the end Colas hang another 24 hrs, unless I break them down in to small nugs. You will know, we'll I will know cause I test it in a joint.

The stem snap is the indicator according to a book I bought that was listed and reviewed on GWE. It also recommended biting the stems to get a read on dryness. Evidently jaws and teeth are more sensitive than fingers. It would take a few grow probably to acquire that experiential knowledge. You can break up a bract from the center of a large bud and if it is smooth smoking and burns evenly then the rest of the buds should be ready for curing (quoting from the book). The drying and curing step was the high anxiety point of the process for me too. We're about 3 weeks ahead of you in the harvest and I can say from my own experience that the outside should feel dry but not crumbly.

I'm hoping I will be asking this same question by end of the year!

Thanks Green and ClearHaze. Useful tips, though I don't think I'll be biting the stems.

Good Luck. You know, looking back on this whole process, it was just a whirlwind of activity because we planted our seeds before we had bought one piece of equipment. Spent a shitload of money but now next grow we will be able to just relax and enjoy the whole process without all the worrying.

Never in my dreams did I ever think I would growing marijuana until my husband just couldn't get any from his usual contact and we had these almost one year old bag seeds laying around. On a whim, we planted them, and the rest is history.

Me either. Till I got a house, the idea that I could grow for myself never crossed my mind or entered my imagination. If I didn't find this site, it prob would still be just a dream.

I took a bunch of my buds, stems and all, and put them in a closed Tupperware pan, with my grow room humidity tester and checked them that way. The snap thing didn't work best for me Just a thought.
                  completed 7 grows
what I have learned so far:
                  environment maters more than nutrients
at least a dab of nutrients in every watering
effective flushing before harvest is critical to quality

What Green said is good advise. I also might add a fan in the drying area. Don't blow on the plants just keep the air moving around your crop. Mold is your enemy now.

Yes I have a fan on low in the tent, not pointing at the buds. I really don't think I need to worry about mold. It seems the temps and humidity are falling in the acceptable level category, so I'm sure its just first harvest jitters.

                      Your temps sound ok.
I do stem snap too BUT I also hang small branches from net (pic). Although you are not supposed to touch your flowers..I walk by , put my ear to the bud and gently squeeze the bud...listening for the crisp. Oddly since I blew it & fed right before harvest..my small Nugs took longer to dry.
Once I hear crisp I cut the buds off stem and let them dry on rack a few more days.
the hygrometer Caliper IV (on GWE) is a must have IMO...after about 7 days buds go into jars 3/4 full max. I rotate my hygrometer (s) if too wet I go back to GWE..and usuLly lay out in net again for the day. Re jar. I personally juggle this adnosium as I don't think there is a perfect..you just need to be attentive until you hit the cure zone. Only after that do I do the packs with some reluctance. Still use hygrometer thru out. 25 $ but worth it!!

PS I do have natural air flow and good ambient temps.
i have never had mold. This is a tedious phase but I am far more comfortable with it then flowering...I freak out straight thru flower.
