The picture is that of my new baby girl. She popped 4 days ago and doesn't look too bad. Just transplanted to a 5 gal container, she looks lost.
Lesson #1 While my last grows were in 3 gal pots, I noticed that while not rootbound, the roots on my previous girls used every cubic inch of my coco mix. The cost is about the same for 5 vs. 3 gal and will give her feet a bit more space. It will just be a bit crowded in the closet for three plants.
Lesson #2 While there are lots of positives with Auto's, there are some things to watch for. The first is speed. The last Critical mass was harvested at 72 days. Sounds like a long time but it's not. I need to be hands and eyes on daily, they grow so fast it is tough if you try to lst with hard stems lol. Plus they jump to flower so quickly that I need to be aware to change my nutes when she first goes to flower. Ended up with Nitrogen Toxicity because I was feeding too much nitrogen in flower. These next grows are going to be all autos. 1 x OG Kush, 1 x Critical Mass and one freebie marked "Cheese" by Canuck Seeds lol.
Lesson #3 PATIENCE. The hardest thing for me to do. I am sure that if I had waited another few days at harvest, my yield would have been better. My buds were kind of small and airy. No problem with flavor, aroma and buzz, so I did most things right. Harvested 40 grams dry on average for all three plants.
Lesson #4. LIGHT. After all other things are taken care of, light is one factor I can control. I currently have 2 Marshydro 300 watt leds. It should have been enough but I am going to add a 600 watt Galaxyhydro LED. That should give me plenty of light for 3 plants. I really, really want to up my yield and most of what I have read is light can be a limiting factor for growth.
Lesson #5 Luck. If it weren't for bad luck I would have no luck at all. While germinating my next three babies I got clumsy and knocked them to the floor. Nor real damage done. Lost one baby but the biggest problem was all of my cute little clothes pins with the strain name all came off lol. So I don't know which is which. I should be able to tell at flower, I hope, as I have grown two of them before. One was a Sativa the other was an indica.
It was a bunch of fun and growing my own killer bud is just amazing.
Thank you to all of you good people. Without your help I would still be buying mediocre bud for premium prices.
