Anyone know if you can freeze sugar leaf trim and popcorn buds without drying them, then pull them out of the freezer and start the dry ice hash process? I just finished up trimming and have a large pile of very sticky resinous trim that I'm thinking is going to make awesome dry ice hash. Thanks for any suggestions!

Howdy ZigZag,
Was the trim and the popcorn buds dried before they went into the freezer? If they were dried, then I would say grind them and throw them in with the dry ice, I have never tried making the DIH on wet or damp trim before.
I hope that it turns out well for You, good luck.Smoke weed,.....grow peace!

DW2_ Thanks for the suggestion. The trim is drying on a screen right now, but it will still be a few more days until its dry. I've never had trim like this before_ all the leaves, even the lower fan leaves and popcorn buds are super frosty. I think its gonna make some awesome hash. Last time I made DIH i used dried trim and buds. This time everything is getting finished at the same time and I'm running out of space, need room to dry the good stuff! Am considering freezing the trim. It would probably only be good for DIH but that's what I want to use it for anyway. I might try freezing half and drying the other half and see if there's any difference. Thank again, I'll keep you posted on the results.

CCisme_ cool thanks for the info. That's what I was thinking but in the back of my mind I was wondering if any moisture would transfer to the DIH....but since the dry ice basically freeze dries the weed it would seem that.....frozen is frozen, as you said. So I'm gonna try it, maybe do half and then see how it goes. I have at least 2-3 oz of trim and small buds so that should be a good start. its on screens drying but its a challenge_ so sticky its clumping together and a PITA to separate on the screen. Good problem to have I suppose. Keep you all posted on the results. Thanks!Current grow_ coco based medium, Fluence LED lights, AIT, 5 gallon planters,

I highly recommend against using wet bud or trim with dry ice hash. A big benefit of dry ice hash is your trichomes never get wet, which helps them freeze off and still fit through the mesh screen, and it also prevents condensation from getting on your hash. If your hash is wet during the process you'll have to dry it out afterwards to prevent mold. The one time I used wet trim instead of drying it first, I ended up with far lower yields and then lost some of the hash to mold because I didn't realize that a tiny bit of moisture would cause problems So based on my experience I highly recommend drying it first so everything stays completely dry from start to finish! That being said, if your plant matter is just sitting in a freezer (which typically has a defroster) without any wrapping, that will naturally "freeze dry" the plant matter and slowly dry everything out. In fact, some growers dry their plants for a few days hanging upside down, then finish drying by putting buds in the freezer, before curing!

Nebula_ Thank you. The main concern I had was if moisture in the trim and bud could cause sifting problems and result in hash that still held some moisture and lead to other issues just like mold.
Never had any problems like that and don't want to mess this one up because I'm hoping its going to be some of the best I ever made. so covered in trichomes...If it does I might take some of the second screen hash I made before and put it in caps so I can see if the THC_A might help with seizures. I have put decarboxylated hash in caps_ I like it as an edible_ no taste, kicks in pretty fast_ just have to start with 1 cap and take it from there. Exactly, I think the lower yields I got were caused pretty much by sifting problems (since in dry ice hash bud is basically going through a very fine mesh). Since everything gets frozen, I theorized that there may have been ice on the trichomes, preventing some of them from falling through.
Decarbed hash in caps is great!

Yes, I agree! I'm just about to make some hash from the Ayahuasca Purple that was harvested about 10 days ago. Have taken your advise to heart and did not freeze the trim. Just dried it and am going to
go get some dry ice tomorrow. I'll post some pics of the results and report on how things turn out_so far the cure is stable at about 60% and the smoke is smooth and tasty. And really packs a punch_ hits hard and really fast, then levels out for a long, mellow ride. I never experienced anything quite like this strain_Going to be interesting to see how the hash turns out!Current grow_ coco based medium, Fluence LED lights, AIT, 5 gallon planters,
