I’m a newbie to growing. In fact, this is only my 2nd year and 4th plant I’ve ever grown. So, what is the best way to grow- outside, inside, in the ground or in pots, real dirt, bought ‘dirt’ or a mix of dirts? Please excuse my ‘growing’ ignorance. I do know if you use plastic pots you will have to water 2-3 times a day / more often! I learned that the hard way this year.
Thanks, in advance.

I use plastic pots and water every 3-4 days with no issues. I use Fox Farms Ocean Forest, better than outside dirt or amended dirt/soil. depending where you live and weather will determine how much and when to water. I grow indoors using a small bedroom as my grow room.

Still somewhat of a newbie myself but from what I’ve learned over the past couple of years from the fine folks here and the tons of information at the GWE website, I don’t know if there is a “best” way to do it. I think it boils down to what works for you and what you have confidence in. Lots of other more experienced growers on here will chime in and you’ll find that the soil all depends on how much work you want to put into it and how many extra nutes you will have to add. Amended soil is basically a custom soil built by the grower and they put whatever they want in it. Most amended soil won’t require bottles and bottles of nutrients because they’re already built into the soil. Having the ability to have stable pH is another plus for amended soil. Lots of people only water with that soil. I’ve always bought soil because I don’t have the privacy or the space to mix soil, but the bought soil has worked for me. I have to add nutrients along the way and pH my water to make it work but my grows have turned out pretty good. I know tons of gorilla grows that’s used just dirt and probably turned out fine but a lot of folks would rather buy soil than take a chance on just plain dirt. In any case, starting out might be easier with bought soil. Fox Farms and other make soil just for cannabis and of course there’s coco and those mixes also. What I would suggest is read and learn everything you can about the way YOU want to try to grow. Every grow you will learn what to do and what not to do and that’s the key. Good luck with whatever you decide and remember to not only enjoy the fruits of your labor, but take time to enjoy the journey getting to those fruits.

Thanks, NuggetMan. I grow outside with full sun. I’m not sure why my plants wilt so soon, after reading your post. My one good plant (I killed one experimenting and 2 others went male) grew to about 7 foot tall and was fantastic bud. Hopefully, this year’s grow will be as good (same strain).

It boils down to what works best for you and what you are comfortable using. Organics is "living" soil and nutrients to feed the soil, not the plant. Growing with synthetics you are feeding the plant, not the soil. Very important to know the pH of your water (6.0 - 7.0) I keep mine between 6.4-6.6 and fluctuate it because nutrient are absorbed through different pH levels. Cloth growing bags are supposed to be better for roots (I do not know as I have used my plastic pots with no issues). Again, it's up to you...

hello everyone...i was wondering if i can start a small project with a strain that is auto flower, for cold weather and with a simple led 100watts lamp in a small closet? is possible to go through all stages of plant with this simple set?

I read (here- Thank you, Nebula Haze!!) that the 2 ways to tell when to pull / harvest a plant is 1. when the white hair turns red and curls inward and 2. (the best way to know) when the Trichomes are 70% cloudy. BUT my red hairs were about 30% red but the Trichomes were about 80% cloudy- so I pulled my plant. Was that a bad idea or did I save myself from having a batch of Indica (which I don’t want)?1 Photo

I pulled a plant yesterday and started trimming right away. Question: Can I save my trim by putting it in a baggie and it in the freezer until all trim has been finished? I’m disabled (from crooked Utah cops- for being innocent, disabled and having Colorado plates on our nice Charger. Really) and can’t do much at a time bc of the pain.

Yes, you can freeze wet trim and save it for later, for butter of bubble hash or tinctures....oh the possibilities...I would go as far as to say wet frozen trim is best for hash or making dabs etc. And if you're slow trimming it's cool it keep adding to your already frozen trim. I would suggest using separate bags for different sessions but if you shoved it all in the same bag as you go it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Doesn’t really matter, but personally I dry mine and store in gallon bags. I have 4 stuffed bags now and just got my butane delivered. I’m planning on making my honey hash this week. I’d wait till you have plenty before wasting time on a small amount. Good luck

Why do my tent grows never produce tricombs but have great looking pistils, 6 grows for nothing but fluffy buds & tiny lil tricombs & just a slight buzz that don't last. I've tried everything, growing for 50 years outside, I go inside & can't grow good decent weed.

What are you using to grow in the tent, gear...like lights, medium, ventilation etc.

I’m a mainly outdoor grower too for 20+ yrs. I just started indoor a few yrs ago myself. It is a trial and error. I did a ton of studying and help from fellow growers on here. Personally, I found that the best indoor grow I’ve had was white widow. I have a small 2/4/5’ tent and use a 450w viparspectra led running 24/7. Go with fox farms ocean forest soil. I make my own mix of calmag and molasses for watering. Making a tea with goat shit n rain water is great too. Also, I just use 5 gal fiber bags. Let your girls get to the 3-4th set of nodes and then clip the bottom set to start training. I’ll average 3-4oz dry per plant in my small indoor grow. I’m sure you’re like me and get close to a pound outside per plant and that’s why we get discouraged. Good luck

deweylee,
My sister-in-law’s plant does that, too. That was another question I was gonna ask. So, Thanks! I don’t know the answer, obviously, but based on my reading of this website it seems (all strains are different) that doing that isn’t good. My understanding is the Trichomes (or, sugar-coating) is what makes or has the Terpenes and THC. We need some more advanced and experienced growers to jump in and help us with that one, though.Last edited by Rocmonkey; 09-09-2020, 01:01 PM.

Soil, Water pH, Nutrients used and at what stage (veg, flower) how much and how often and the strength used, lighting!!! Since I grow indoors (I use a small bedroom, t8 lighting, 6400k for veg at 8 weeks at 16/8, then flip to flower (1 week) using 2700k at 12/12 schedule. Indica flower range is 8 to 12 weeks Maximum (I pick between 8 - 10 weeks). Sativa range is 8 - 16 weeks (note: North American 8 to 14 weeks (I pick at 10-12 weeks, Land Race Sativa takes 16 weeks to mature to pick) And most important is total darkness when in 12/12 schedule! Molasses also has been used to help "sugar" up plants. I can grow 6 plants all exactly the same way and they will not come out the same, all are different. I don't grow with a tent so I cannot comment on what or how your grows are not coming out, all I can mention is temperature, lights, humidity and air circulation.

And its a full WHITE LED BOARD ( 6500k )
I i would like to know the distance from my 2 plants!
They are with 6 to 7 weeks at vegetative stage, photoperiod strain !
And I don't know the genetics ( growing weed is forbidden here! Don't tell THE POLIIIICE! LOL.Last edited by VandroyG; 09-26-2020, 03:49 PM.

I would use caution in the beginning till you see if there are any issues with the plants. So they are photos and about 7wks old. Are they under the light now? You will need to sex them as they could be males if you don't know what they are? But i place my vegging gals that age under my lamps at 25" from top of plant canopy. When i flip the lights on a timer for flowering then it's 12/12 on and off lights. I run veg. 18/6 autos and photoperiod.

Not a question as much as a suggestion to Nebula for the newsletter. Why not profile Hempy Growing? I've found it's literally the easiest, most difficult to F-Up (I grow with a partner, and he's, er, not a "detail dude") and best yielding growing setup. We do hybrid indoor-outdoor lighting and it's been very, very fun.
Mainly, though, for beginners this is as basic as it gets. Like soil, but with no way to overwater!
