Roots Exposed to Light=??? Can we finally put this to rest?

I have done lots of reading on forums on the effects of roots being exposed to light and can not find a straight answer. I see lots of people saying its not okay but with no proof. I am currently growing in clear pots and can see a few roots that made it to the sides. Will these roots be okay. Can anyone with real experience answer my question?

It's not recommended but I don't think it's going to kill your plants

I put clones and seeds into transparent plastic cups. I'm able to see the roots as they develop. That was not my intention, but, no failures in nearly 3 years.

So will they be okay through out the entire grow? I think that is much more long term light exposure than seedlings or clones in small cups. I can put some tape around the containers to block the light, but i would love to leave it as it is now. Still though the question is, does anyone have any evidence or experience with light exposure to your roots and how it affected the plant if it did at all? If algae does grow will it hurt my plant?

why would you want to risk it?
i can't recall any plants that have exposed roots to the light. Why expose your weed roots to light? I am all for trying new things with our plants but that my friend is not one of them.
