First grow questions about tall seedlings autoflower autofem seeds in rapid rooters

This is my first grow of 5 exodus cheese autoflowering autofeminized seeds. They are in rapid rooters in a 6 pack grow container. I have a humidity dome and a heat mat with thermostat. I have been keeping them at 75 degrees F. I have a 4 bulb light about 14 inches above the plants with 2 different types of CFL grow bulbs. (the type of bulbs is right from the GWE web site recommendation)

Right now the "grow area" is just a space in my garage where the plants are surrounded by a cardboard shield which allows them to be enclosed...sort of.

I soaked seeds in water for 36 hours until the tap root showed and them put them in damp paper towel for 24 hours until the tap root was showing about a quarter inch or somewhat longer. Then I put the seeds in the rapid rooters. They came up in couple days but them were very long stems, as you can see.

Now the seedlings are about 6 inches tall and have very thin stems and tiny little "real" leaves on the cotyledon. Since I have not raised plants before I don't know what they should look like but I don't think they should be so tall and leggy. I noticed all this about 2 days after they sprouted, they just kept growing like a bean stalk. I have not give them any nutrients yet.

I have been watering with reverse osmosis water. I plan to grow them outdoors in fabric grow containers once the seedlings get established. If they ever do!

Thus my question, now what should I do? I don't know whether let them keep growing or transplant or what. I need your help as you can probably see. I would appreciate any guidance you can give me.

Hi bookreader, your plant's are reaching for the light (stretching). If your using cfl light keep them 1 to 2 inchs from the plants. http://www.growweedeasy.com/cfls. If it was me I'd transplant and bury them halfway up the stem, move your light till it almost is touching and low strest train them to stay down. Hope this helps and good luck.

Aaaaaaamen. Haha I wouldn't go for less than 2 in case they grow when you are not watching 👀

Hey Reader, welcome to the forum!! And because of all that stretching, I'm pretty sure that you are going to have to stake those girls, or they will fall over when leaves emerge. I saw a picture on another forum where folks actually tie a gentle knot in the stem to lower the plants.

Thanks for the guidance Mr.furley and alltatup. I did transplant those long stem seedlings in to larger pots and buried them in the FFOF planting mix so that only an inch or so was showing. I thought about the tying a knot in the stem technique but I don't think my knot tying skills are up to speed for that. However, I did tie a little wire rope around the most egregiously bent seedlings to straighten them up; seemed to work fine to hold them up and now they don't even need the wire rope to stand up! I also did pour on some transplant "helper" to make things better for the little plantlets. Seems to have worked.

So, your help and guidance is most appreciated. I uploaded a photo taken one day after the transplant. They all seem very happy, as am I.

It's amazing what you can do with a popsicle stick and some telephone wire!
