AK Auto, Moby Dick CBD, 2nd grow

Finally, a belated (2nd) grow report, even though first grow is still in progress, 4 weeks into flower. The waiting is unbearable, so to speed things up, I dropped more seeds. That works, right? I've actually introduced this grow in the other thread.

AK Auto (Canuck) Freebee and Moby Dick CBD (Dinafem), ordered from True North Seeds. I picked True North because at the time, they were the only ones accepting Visa. But then when I got to checkout, I opted for the discount and extra freebies, and sent them an MO. It took about 3 weeks, not too bad. It was had the wrong freebie, and included this unpleasant note. I'm sure it's a CYA thing, but it sure makes me think twice before calling them if I have a problem. Has anyone had a problem with True North that they had to call for help about? A big selling point for their competition that I hear from some of you is that some sellers will help you, and send you replacement seeds if you get duds.

I dropped them in a shot glass with water on February 12th before leaving for work. The AK Auto had a root sticking out when I got home, so they went into rapid rooters. They were sprouted by morning, shed their husks and everything.

2/18 roots were showing from bottom of rapid rooters, installed in mini-tote bubblers along with another clone of previous grow.

I've been using Rx Green Solutions nutrients. It was their version of the “go kit”, and I got lost staring at all those different bottles of GH and Fox Farms, none of the labels are obvious what they are actually for. It has been working well, although I don't have anything to compare it to.

For this one, I am going on the cheep by using MaxiGrow and MaxiBloom dry noots, with added HydroGuard and CalMag, ph'd to 5.7-5.9. I'm not sure what to think, but I've been having my first run-ins with root rot. Yay.

The first thing I noticed about these girls is how quickly they started, and how wide and big the leaves are! Like several times bigger than Dairy Queen leaves. They also have a nuttier flavor (I eat them as I trim).

2/20 The mini bubbler with AK Auto, Moby Dick CBD and White Jr-dwc developed brown roots! Shit! Good thing I've been following Tat's algae thread. I've been trying to help there and another root rot thread by sharing the simple things that I've done and been getting good results, and BAM! Snot funny.

I took them all out of the bubbler, washed and treated all the girls, and isolated Dairy Queen into a Kratky jar to take to a friend. AK Auto was transplanted into coco, and Moby went into a fresh bubble tote by herself.

I don't know if it's the change in noots, light leak through the cup holes, or what. So in 3 sessions, I've washed off the roots with the dish sprayer and then run in a fresh tub of noots with SLF-100, which is an enzymatic root cleaner that the hydro store dude recommended. They looked great after the wash, but the brown kept coming back in 3-5 days.

I finally kicked it with bleach. 9 drops per gallon of water/noot solution. No, really, bleach. The roots have been clear, and the plant is thriving.

        Today and yesterday.
3/1 AK Auto's roots were showing through the plastic cup, transplant day! There was a short thread on the importance of using opaque grow cups to protect the roots from light. I believe that in solid grow media, the dirt or coco will keep the roots in the dark until the roots reach the sides of the cup. That way, you can see when the roots have filled your cup, but haven't gotten root bound yet.

I don't know if transplant went too rough and I damaged the root ball, or if T5 isn't enough light 5 inches away, but AK's growth tips have been very slow-growing after she got topped at her 3rd node. Today, the new tips are about 1 inch tall from their node, and she's got a month to go. I think I need more powerful light in my veg area.

Moby is going to get cloned when her 7th node is tall enough to cut off a the 3rd node, and 1st node branches, leaving 2nd and 3rd to train out into a nice shrub.

        Thanks for reading!

Moby's stem is peeling, like a snake shedding her skin, and getting tiny white spots. Should I worry?

            I think that's pretty normal

Whew! Thanks man. I zoomed way in and kept trying to convince myself that I was seeing legs.

AK Auto is 30 days old, training top branches to go wide and let the bottom branches catch up to make a nice flat canopy. I added some CFLs until I save up for a nice light. I have 2 GalaxyHydro 300 in flower, the T5 2X4 is perfect for the kiddos, but is not going to cut it for vegging or for autos.

Coffee bean bags make great reflective material.
