update. sorta.
cant remember veg week anymore. irrelevant at this point as there has been no change in course until this last week. oooh damn, guess its week 13.
did some rearranging in the tent. properly bastardized the ac to pump directly into the lower port. fan and filter on lowest setting vented inside the tent. opened top port to exhaust whatever the ac puts in on the lowest fan speed setting. lights are vented pass thru to outside with the ac. note for the future: think dual ducted ac next time, save a lot of bs.
still, its more efficient than what i had set up before.
got the girls into the tent no problem. been there about a week now under that big blue light getting supercropped and ready for the scrog. i wasnt gonna do it this time, but thinking ahead i really dont want to mess with yoyos in the tent if i dont have to. so i will scrog, but im building a 2nd tier to keep the tops spaced more evenly when they get there. i want longer fuller colas this time.
saw 2 gnats in my tent yesterday morning. dosed em with a systemic and now im about prevention. i went out and got foodsafe sprays for fungus and invaders, which i will use one time when i flip.
i will update more as i finish the setup and get it installed.

ok, week whatever veg update.

lots of work. i gave em a hard defol and untied every single twisty i used over the last 3+ months. then installed the new scrog. finished lowering it and then started getting some of those weeks of growth back!!! pulled those arms out and tied them off. cracked 2 in the process and fixed em no problem. worth it. the smallest is 24 inches diameter, largest is 30 inches diameter.
as you can see in the pics, im set up for a 2nd tier that completely fills the tent. this is going to be such a pain in the ass, but im going for it. probly be my last grow of more than 2 plants at a time for a long while if ever again.
lowered nutes to about 3/4 strength to account for the hard defol. also skipped roots this week, lots of silvery white growth under the big light and branches/knuckles swelling thick, so leaves should come back quickly.

gotta have em. the 4 inch holes for netpots dont cut it for my hands or equipment. so i made em 5.5×6 . i can directly check ph n ppm, i can get in and remove pumps, add stones, and i just drop my pump lines in for nute change. i only open the res lid if i truly need to closely inspect those sexy roots for not so sexy issues.
ive had handles for them from the start too just havent ever put em on, lol. in a box somewhere...

just used the cutout from the hole as a stiffener and layered the bubble foil into a flanged plug for no light leaks. probly not the best material for the job, but seems pretty functional this far.

8 days to flip. i think.

keeping myself out of the tent. watching and planning the next move in between each step.
after last weekends defol and scrog ive let them leaf up and stack nodes. they are pushing up nicely now, which is what ive been waiting for.
now i will let them grow freely until i see 8 to 10 inches of vertical growth, and then it will be time to add level 2 screen 5 or 6 inches above the first in order to spread them out wall to wall shortly before i flip. at that point my tent will be COMPLETELY filled with the canopy a foot or less from the top of my reservoirs, 25 inches from the floor. these 19 gal totes are only 13 inches deep! lovin it.

keeping nutes around 800-900 ppm.
res temps 72-73°f.
tent temps 76-82°f.
rh 57-70%
no more bugs observed since i added the systemic. thank you sns.

they drink heavily now. right about a gallon a day each reservoir. good sign considering the high humidity in there! hear those engines hot and revving up? lol.
keeping the defol to a minimum until the 2nd screen goes on. at that time i will prune and defol the shit out of them again. 1, it makes it easier to move colas around the screen, and 2, doing this right before flip got me excellent results thru transition on my last (first) grow. speaking of which, i plan a 2 week transition period for these girls as the bloom phase is longer and they have a 4 week stretch period instead of the average 3.
also..yes, dont hang up, i still got more!
as i said in previous posts ive redone the layout and the cooling/ventilation system. and for the equipment i have on hand im really stoked about it. i cant do a completely sealed environment with what i have, but i HAVE managed to reduce the input/output enough to effectively use co2! BAM!!! game changer.
supplies ordered and in transit, AND with little damage to my credit card. i will update upon arrival and installation!

funny thing forums are. so many give 2 shits about vegging plants. understandable to a point. hard to take the eyes away from good ol BUD PORN ( oh fk yeah). but, maybe because im still so new and dont know shit yet, i see everything im doing during the veg phase as defining the final outcome of my grow. weight, potency, quality, everything. so as i "grow into my own", i find myself digging deeper into the journals of the big dawgs here, the ones just killing it over and over again, try to see past those fatally distracting flowers back to thier veg days... and really scrutinize the training and resulting development. because THAT is, as im seeing it, where overall crop success begins.
reading back over that little bit there pretty much convinced me that this IS just more new guy insight, lol. first grow success i have to define as getting from start to finish with a little something to smoke on.
guess what im getting at is for other new growers wanting to improve thier skills and end results and get closer to the fantastic flora you see in the grow rooms of the gurus, try to spend more time analyzing thier vegging/training techniques. dont just copy the style, find out the whens, whys and hows. your brain needs veg time before bloom too.

hope this makes up a little for the half ass reports lately. took some vacation days so i have TIME, lol.

got too much coffee in me and nowhere to be. i got somethin to even that shit out right now...

Hmmm...... My first complete grow my biggest worry was getting caught. My first couple of years it was always about me and not the plant. It wasn't until I started reading books about it and understanding this plant that I came to appreciate growing it and gave any type of thought or care about it.

kind of a drawback using smaller reservoirs, last grow i only topped off once a week, lol.

good morning GWE!
getting ready for a big weekend in the tent, many hours of work to do.
got the girls vegging like fire, fast as my last run during the stretch period...freakin exciting!
all yellowing from low nutes and light about faded and gone.
i added co2 pads thurs night. i cant credit this growth last 2 days to gas as i dont yet have a sniffer to check ppm levels. i will go get one today. i gotta find out, this new growth is ridiculous.
there will be some defoliation, maybe a lot. screen will be modified to finish opening them up wall to wall. there will be lots of pruning and some topping, i need 40-50 more tops to achieve my canopy goal.

im getting a little nervous about height limits. ive kept these plants pretty small, but they ARE 3 months vegged, and i feel that there will be a lot of power pushing a controlled number of colas. all good tho, im not gonna feel bad about punching a couple holes thru the top of the tent and bolt that light to the ceiling to get the last 6 inches! but only if i gotta, lol.

these are my plans. i will post as i get time over this weekend. im also posting some pics from this morning to show off the growth, and to serve as the "before" shots of project progress.
