Has it suddenly got much faster for everyone else or just me? Strangely I haven't made any changes since it got faster (I was working on a copy on a different server)

It's certainly not consistent. It doesn't seem to be anything like number of users, specifically malicious users as the server is only using about 11% of its available resources whenever I notice it being slow which when its some form of malicious attack that's 80% above (often 100%).
I've replicated it on a private test version too with no users but myself so it seems like it's software related. I've updated the OS, the server software and reuploaded all the vBulletin files but no luck. Something we are looking into as a quick test doesn't seem to be having these problem is switching the forum platform to Xenforo (it's been something we have been considering for a while as vBulletin is not the quality platform it was when we started using it)

That's because costs to run a site have gone up (And I expect to see a further increase because in March I bought 32GB of RAM for £85, the same set is currently going for £170 and they are saying it could hit as high as £250 by Feb. So as the data centres that host sites have to replace hardware these increased prices will force them to put their prices up) but advertising rates have fallen through the floor. And more users are using adblockers so sites need to get as much money as they can from those who don't Adblock. And even sites that offer a paid ad-free option people refuse to pay, for example one site I do work on charges £10 a year which for a site that so many of the users spend a few hours everyday on is nothing but only about 1% of users pay while the majority block the ads.Originally posted by shadycon View PostSeems to be the new standard for the internet,"period" More users and way more advertising. It's why I will always say to people, if you have an Adblock installed if you end up using a site alot then turn if off especially if its not a site run by big corporation and only put it back if it starts being malicious. And if you don't want to see ads at all find a way to support the site, either by buying a subscription if they offer it, buying something via an affiliate link they provide or just dropping them an email to see if they have a way to send a donation so that the sites you enjoy visiting can continue to exist

Dudes! The cost of everything is going up because of cell phones.
People pay for the device, then pay by the month to dodge ads and scammers. Then realize their phone is sucking up so much money in fees and delivery services and subscriptions and shit that they have to get a second job, demand a raise, unionize, lie, cheat, and steal to afford the ongoing costs. And it is expected that every fucking person on the face of the planet has one and has it anatomically connected. The world is more expensive for the convenience of cell phones.
Yeah, I have one. Just got my first in 13 or 15 years or so. Free from the government because I'm suuuuper poor. It will only ever be used to call for medical rides.
I dare anyone to argue with me about this. I double dog dare you!Open to suggestions.

Bloody millennials. Bloody X-gens who want to be millennials. Watch out, millennials! You're being gentrified!
I will never drop my landline. The screen will never break. I will never lose it. I will never drop it in the toilet or bidet. It will never go out of date. It will never get hacked. It will never get spammed. People are not out to steal my landline or the information contained therein. I am not some annoying prick so engrossed in my phone that I fucking walk into people! Monthly fee is $30. A new one costs $50.
I would go on but I have stuff to do.Open to suggestions.

Baloney, if anything wireless communication has lowered the cost of connectivity and doing business for individuals and business's.Originally posted by DabberDog View PostDudes! The cost of everything is going up because of cell phones.

Dude that's in poor taste here.

's all good BHW.
I live of the benefits of being a war era veteran of the United States Army, working for 35 years, contributing to a system I will never get a penny from (SSI), and being a gingerbeard. The contributions I still make to society are unpaid and unrecognized because they are on a personal level, not corporate.
SWFL I hope you never find yourself in need.

SWFL Not baloney. Not false.
Good for business, costly to consumers. More business, not cheaper, not better. I'm admittedly sheltered. What prices have gone down? I have a cell phone because other people want me to have one to streamline their business to do more business. If it was cheaper, why is the cost of everything going up? Sorry, the cost of everything but connectivity, I suppose. The bloody cost of electricity is going up because of connectivity!
This is not something we're going to come to a consensus about.Open to suggestions.
