Hi Bluey... I'm going to extract the THC cannabinoiids from some sugar leave I have from this years crop. I understand the graphs and am looking for a temp of 245 for about 45 minutes if I was to decarb in an oven. The question is, why decarb when you can but the sugar leaves right into the oil for 3 hours at the same temp of 245? Is it too long and possiblly changes the carrabinoids to CBT? Wouldn't this happen in any case if I do fuse with oil for 3 hours? It seems almost everyone decarbs and then infuses into the oil. I just don't see why everyone thinks this way. I mean, just put it in the oil at 245 degree for 3 hours, strain it and your done. Hope you are having a good weekend. Thanks for the input. : )

I understand that decarboxylation changes THCA and CBDA into THC and CBD. That A is acid. The body cannot absorb THCA and CBDA without decarboxylation. Heat is the agent that allows that change. That's why the decarb process is instant when smoking, right? You're question is interesting to me because it seems you are really referring about the potency of the end product. Maybe this a bro science issue, IDK. My understanding is weed will decarb as it is heated and fused into the oil but that process will not produce an end product as potent as weed that was decarbed first. Maybe you could run an experiment and share the results.

Glofnrl, Hi. I'm a small hobbiest. What I'm wondering is if the decarb is really needed if you are going to put your weed in oil and heat it to 245 degree for 3 hours. It seems there are a lot of people that say it needs to be decarbed first, but it seems that is being said because that's the way everyone is told to do it. I don't see the logic there. I will grant that decarbing weed gives you the most exact decarboxylation and control of that process. But, oil reciepts call for 245 degree weed in oil for 3 hours, which to me will do the same thing as decarbing. It may turn weed more into CBD with the oil for 3 hour story, but that would be the same result even if the weed was decarbed first. Basically, I don't feel my initial question has been answered, so I will continue to follow the herd and decarb first regardless if it's really needed or now. That is unless someone really knows through their own studies. Like I said, I'm a small hobbiest that does a few plants a year. I don't even have enough sugar leaf to do a half and half study with one half being decarbed and the other half just done only in oil, leading to a general can I tell a difference. Hm... maybe next year. Ha ha.

The cannabis will absorb the butter and the cannabinoids will bind with the butter.
You then need to extract the butter absorbed by the, in your case, sugar leaves. You do this by putting the sugar leaves in a cheese cloth or similar and extracting the fluid from the organic matter using pressure. You squeeze it. The higher the temp during extraction the better the recovery of butter.
You do all of this in water on the stove and I do it just below boiling point but it can be done at any temp that melts the butter. Once extracted, place in the fridge or freezer and the butter will separate from the water. Retrieve your now green butter and use in your fave recipe.
I simmer my cannabis and butter just below boiling which is probably around 95⁰C for 4 hours which guarantees 95% decarb minimum and total binding of cannabinoids The next stage, of baking cookies for 10min or a cake, pretty much guarantees full decarb. The low temp over time helps preserves the THC.
Use caution when extracting. Your skin will absorb it as easily as your stomach lining and its easy to OD with the first signs of uncontrollable shaking being the clue you've over done it.
Using the above method will get you stoned just using male sativa fan leaves.
