    How much nitrogen during flowering?

    Hellooooooo again!
    I’M STARTING MY 3rd GROW
    I’M SOO EXCITED!!
    I need some advice please.
My first two grows I had issues with my nute routine when “ bloom” time came. I use advance nutrients atm. Micro, grow and bloom. I have read the bottles , went to their website. It’s still not clear when i should start “ bloom” nutes ( first sign of pistils, is what I found online that sounded right) How do YOU do your tapering down, Do YOU end up with zero nutes that have nitrogen? Like, does my plant still need those nutes ?
My motivation is to have superb bud🥰
If you have a moment, I would really appreciate your thoughts.

    Hi AMP,
It's always exciting to grow your own dope. I am by no means an expert on what a plant needs and when. Nitrogen is one of those must haves for MJ throughout its life cycle. I think it is just a question of how much and when it needs it.

I'm growing in coco and the nutrients I use recommend a continuance of the Growth Enhancer for the first two weeks of the flower period. I taper down the dosage over those two weeks to zero. The base nutrients I use have nitrogen and the plant will get that throughout its life except for one week during the flower period. That week is for PK load and base isn't needed.

The question is when does the flower period begin? For me, the flower period begins with the change in light schedule. That light change triggers a hormone(s) in the plant and tells it to start making flowers. Except we don't see that immediately. It will take a short period of time for the plant to show pre-flowers and such but the change has already happened. That's why I count the beginning of the flower when the flip is made. I have tried to wait until I see pre-flowers but I am high too often and have forgotten to look. So it's better if I can tie the start to a specific date.

        Autos or feminized?
At 4-weeks growing autos in coco, I flip to flowering nutrients for hydro. At that point I rely on the good people at the fertilizer manufacturer to make a reliable product with just the base amount of everything my flowering plant needs.
As reference to maybe percentage, my veg nutes read 9 for nitrogen, bloom nutes are 2.
        Open to suggestions.

        Hi, AMP.
When growing in my greenhouse (coco/perlite, fabric pots), I simply follow GWE's recommended nutrient schedule using GH Trio and CalMag, pH'd to 6.0. Get great results.
I let the plants tell me what they need. After all are vegging well, I monitor leaf tips for nute burn. If/when I see a tiny tip of brown, I dial back the nutes and use more plain water.
Since different strains have different genetics, I usually mark the appearance of first flower pistils for the switch to bloom nutes.

Allotrope1000 You've previously explained when you make the switch. It makes sense and I've tried it. I'm just not very good at it. Maybe I just need more practice. lol.

For all. Don't think this as being too silly.

I let a blend of science, experience and plant zen guide my grows. The plants will flourish nicely when the temps, light, nutes and YOU are all in harmony.
Every few weeks, take a couple hits, sit in your garden or greenhouse, or outside your tent. Maybe grab a beer or glass of wine. Stream your favorite tunes. Open up to your plants. . . rejoin the interconnected multi-verse. . .

'Nuff said. Buzz faded, beer drank. They will still fail to grow without science and experience.

I like being in tune with the plants but I'm paranoid about smoking around them. I don't want them to know that one day that will be them. Plants know things. Especially MJ.

The Zen of growing top shelf bud requires an holistic approach that takes into account how much N is packed into the plant relative to when it will start flowering and all other factors, both environmental and genetics.

I have started a mix of veg & bloom nutes one week prior to flipping the lights with plants so packed with N that they were darker than green and almost dark blue to the normal transition which is AFTER the stretch. Keep veg nutes up to them during the stretch until pistols start developing then I progressively decrease veg nutes and replace with bloom nutes. Once transitioned to full bloom I substitute CalMag for a PK suppliment, about every 2nd feed.

The above should only be used as a guide as your plants requirements will vary depending on how they are grown, in what environment, etc, and if you follow a rule your plant doesnt love your grow will not be the best it could have been.

Your plants will show you the way.
