    veg times: t5 vs mh

hey folks, been planning my second grow and have a question about vegging timelines between t5 lights and metal halides.
my first grow was (is) vegged under 1000w metal halide, and im switching to the t5s ×8 for the next run. im still going dwc.
what kind of difference in growth rate can i expect?
    thanks

Hey harvester, I found your neglected post, and I originally skimmed over it because I know next to nothing about lights. But I have the T5s in my grow box, and I think it's a good general practice, since we don't have the sun moving all around our plants, to provide light from below. Difference in your growth rate? You will have to tell us! Growth rate depends on more factors than the lights, as you know. So I'll be interested in knowing what kind of differences you get. PLEASE POST!!

hey ATU! no worries, this time its for planning purposes n no emergency, lol.
I'm going to run 24 karat gold (kosher kush) this time which gets a little bigger than the peppermint I got going now. I'm doing 4 instead of 5 and vegging bigger since I have 8+ weeks before my bloom tent is free. I just wanted to know how much sooner to plant in order to compensate for less light intensity in the t5s compared to 1000w mh. don't want my bloom tent sitting there empty waiting for veggers! so no emergencies
my veg area is operational, and I will finish my new and improved "FrankenGrow II" reservoirs today!
I will post again later on today with a quick update on my existing journal and also get a new one started...time permitting.
thank you sweetly for responding girl! and love the new avatar!

I would think that it will be a 1000W veg vs. a 400W veg. so your plants will grow somewhat slower but probably just as good.

what I have learned so far:
    environment maters more than nutrients
at least a dab of nutrients in every watering
effective flushing before harvest is critical to quality

thanks potted. I'm only using the t5 for veg. flower will be under 1000w hps.
so are you saying even just vegging under t5s I will notice a lower yield?
and also...since you said much slower...I'm vegging 4 plants to fill a sq meter...can you give me a rough time estimate from seed?

everything i have read on this site says that the HPS (of any size) really shines/is basically the king of flower and that T5s are nearly perfectly suited for veg, or are, at the very least, as well-suited as any of the alternatives. i think i remember reading that they're actually better for veg than MH (of any size) because of spectrum. so if what i've read is right then i think you are in really good shape and i'm looking forward to seeing the results.

thanks for that reply Bob s! great to hear! the number in my head for vegging right now I'm guessing should be right around 8 weeks barring any serious setbacks. bloom tent may only be down for a week at most after drying the first run. that s not too bad at all. I want to get both grows finished up before I buy a house and have to break it all down for prolly the rest of the year. but then...things start to become permanent!
