An advantage of RSO is it can be placed in caps. Easily transportable, stored and consumed, all stealthily. I only have a gallon of 99.9% pure ISO stored @ minus 20⁰C. Not enough to do all the bud and trim I have and it's been recommended to soak for a few weeks which purifies it more I'm informed..

I would still like to try the ice water bag method, a set of 8 nylon bags is around US$70 to the door. I have the mechanical mixer and plenty of 5 gal buckets.

No rush. Still drying these remaining buds on the plant, increased the temps and dropped the RH to 20⁰C and 50% these past few days in the grow room making sure I totally dry these remaining buds before cardboard boxing the lot.

Never heard of hash caps? I'm not saying don't do RSO. I'm coming at it with the least amount of work.
In my nascent experience and research about making ice water hash, you don't really need but four bags unless you can tell the difference between, say, a 72 micron and 85 micron hash. Five bags, tops.

I haven't heard of hash caps.

The only experience I have with processing this plant is drying and curing for smoking/vaping and the making of green butter.

I've smoked hash but never made any. Finger hash doesn't count.

I can get 3/5 or 8 bag sets, ice filter or standard (I need to check what the difference is, the standard are 5% more expensive) nylon full mesh bag sets in anything from 1 gal to 55 gal. 5 gal size is workable for me. They are the white bags with color coded stitching/draw strings at the top. Cost is US$52 delivered for a 5 bag 5 gal ice water set.

Pretty sure they are these bags that Gator is using

Okay fellow fourm friend's it's been a while since we've done this so I thought it would be fun. Post a recent picture of your plants. no need for overwhelming

I use 2 buckets, one is for the bags and one is for working the plant material,I also use a drill and a paddle, the ones used for mixing drywall compound work well,I work the material for 15-20 minutes before pouring it into the bags, and then I work the material like plunging a toilet for another 15-20 minutes ,then I remove the first bag and set it aside, this will be worked at least twice more (220 micron bag,), the next two bags are the 190&160, whatever is in there goes in the garbage, everything after that I keep for hash

I have the drill and paddle and plenty of buckets. Do you freeze your bud or grind it first?

I'm guessing you put all the bags into the bucket and remove 1 bag after being fully worked, 220 micron removed first then work again then remove the next bag and so on.

Do you just dry what you catch in the last bags then press through a screen?

See now that 15-20 minutes by hand sells the washer, my back would not be happy.
Even with a drill and paddle.

I've been working with silk screen for years and I can honestly say that I get a better return from the bags, and I don't have to be out on the back porch in the middle of winter trying to dry sift Click image for larger version

Bluey Seems most folk around here freeze and/or grind material before kiefing and seems most folk have a reason. But someone said something that makes a whole bunch of sense: Frozen bud breaks. That means you have more particulate matter. Same-same with ground bud.
Video's I've seen of people processing marijuana for kief is whole bud, unfrozen. At least one of the videos was, maybe, I'm not dropping names, could have been that Cannoli hash dude people worship.
For bag selection, I don't know why I don't use them but the whole bag screens look pretty nice compared to the bottom only screen bags. The pyramids are for the washing machines but can be used in buckets.
Now. Once you decide kief extraction is the bee's knees, the cat's meow, the wine in the bottle... take a look at static kief. If I was not so into my dewaxing, I would be into static hash. Maybe that's next since the only direction I can go with my dewaxed resin is distillation. This ginger don't have the money, space, or quantity to run an oil still.

I have several gallon bags that I ground a bit and ran across the trim bin, I can see how it would be a bit more trashy than whole buds.
Static, if I could automate that it sounds interesting

How do you best store it and rough shelf life?

I have come across hash in Morocco that was so hard it was difficult to work with

The Moroccan hash we used to get here was soft and easy to work with, but the US military was bringing it in they have lots of space.

Frozen, airtight, like long term weed storage. Hash cures and ages like weed.
You could go balls out and store in an argon purged vacuumed mason jar.
Your hard hash might have been mechanically pressed. Temple balls are hand pressed. You can smuggle more hard hash in the same space as hand pressed.

What I have done for now is just gently poor the kief into a 1 cup jar then decarb it, no pressing.

To make the THC available when ingested, delta 9 when decarbed and eaten turns into delta 11 in the liver, lasts longer in the system, also takes about 2 hours to be fully affective.

Green butter (100⁰C) then fully decarbed in the baking process (180⁰C) is available about 30 minutes to one hour after injection. Timing depends on so many human biological factors, bit like ingesting alcohol, timing varies for effect and strength.
