    1st post + myriad questions & ideas

Greetings everyone. It's a real pleasure to finally get on in here and get going.

The first topic that I'd like to address is 2 supposed Slurricane autoflower seeds (6 for $31) that I acquired through, shall we say, an extremely large online seller, that I got to germinate 1/12 and 1/14, 48 and 46 days ago respectively. For good measure I put them on a 12/12 cycle starting 2/14, and they have a lot of pistils showing all over the plant. By and large they're short but healthy. I've been feeding them exclusively rain water, then Dyna Gro Foliage Pro during veg and Bloom for flowering. The one anomaly that I've noticed is that, unlike the photoperiod grows I did over 21+ years ago, I have yet to see the emergence of any 7-bladed leaves. Of course, there were the sets of 3s followed now by 5s, but that is all that is growing at present. My questions are: 1) Is this problematic from the perspective of being authentic Slurricane? 2) Did I, perhaps, get ripped off and instead got a pure ruderalis? 3) Or is it no big deal, the 7-bladed leaves will eventually show or, maybe not show at all, because it's an autoflower? This is my first grow with autoflowers and wow, has this been a real learning curve, especially one of the plants, which looks like it topped itself, even though I did not. For lack of a better description in many respects it looks like a menorah the way it has branched out. The other one is growing purely vertically, no LST at all. Any insights here will be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone here ever tried 1) clear plastic drinking cups for germination so one could see the development and size of the root structure, so as to know when to transplant? 2) Has anyone tried crushed garlic (indoors), growing around garlic outdoors, or used peppermint oil spray around plants to ward off pests? When I first started the above-mentioned seeds I noticed a couple of small gnats buzzing around, so I crushed up some garlic and put it in a water bottle cap for each plant and, voila, haven't seen any pests of any kind since. Garlic is very good for warding off mosquitos, and we've used diluted peppermint oil spray to effectively and naturally ward off yellowjackets and wasps for years.

Just received some Granddaddy Purple seeds today and can't wait to get them going. Really interested to hear a whole range of feedback about them. from the growing experience to the reward.

In conclusion, I'd like to sincerely give NebulaHaze (no relation ) major kudos on her remarks concerning the objectionable names that have been given many new strains in the past few years. I first started partaking back in the '70s in the good 'ol days of cheap but good $10/oz. Mex weed, Maui Wowie, Acapulco Gold, Panama Red, etc. It's crazy how many new strains there now are. And when I run across some of these names like the one she's pointed out, it just makes me cringe. I'm all in on slightly edgy, unorthodox, yet tasteful and mature humor, and 100% thumbs down on immature and rather distasteful humor and names that she pointed out in that review. Well done Nebula!

    Over and out.

I'm growing slurricane photoperiods in my tent right now i'd never grown it before. I've done lots of autoflowers. Never used a clear cut lots of folks do. I don't get bug problems indoors, knats i've seen a few. Nope never used garlic crushed. Mostly get 5 finger have had 7 finger. Good luck and post some pictures of your grow setup if you want to. Yes i can't stand some of the stupid names put out on seeds.

I found evidence of spider mites in my tent and used Dr. Earth spray - rosemary oil, sesame oil, peppermint oil, thyme oil, cinnamon oil, garlic. I haven’t had any more spider mites and the plants didn’t object.

Use clear and red or whatever other color solo cup. The clear will be the inner cup and the other colored solo cup will act as a sleeve for the clear cup. This will give the roots the darkness they seek to develop normally but will also give you the opportunity to be able to slip the clear cup out of its sleeve and see how roots are doing.

That's a great idea about the cups.

What an absolute beauty. Was that a photo or an auto? Indoor or out? How many days from germination to harvest for that beaut? I'm accustomed to one-hit wonder skunk buds, what's the potency like by comparison?

Thanks to all for everyone's input here.

It's a photo plant but was grown from a clone. I used to live near a dispensary that was owned by one of the original Strain Hunters and they had a banging propagator that also did some great crosses. Indoor.

The GDP cross was really nice. Not as nice as the Purple Erkle we grew afterwards but still, some very quality smoke.

This was the garage setup we grew it in....

VERY nice. I just hope that you rewarded your cars with a little of the harvest for them putting up with the inconvenience.
