    New Grower, New grow

    Hey y'all,

This is my grow. All three are three and a half weeks from being planted. They all grew at different rates. Im using 4x40watt CFL's and one giant 42watt 120v CFL that i ordered by mistake. Started nutrients a couple of days ago. Plant 1 was transplanted into a 2 gallon smart pot last week and plant 2 was transplanted into the same thing a couple of days ago.Plant 3 didn't grow out of the soil until 9 days after being planted. I plan on building a way better box, but this is what I've got right now. Any advice/suggestions please let me know. plant 2 and 3 aren't doing so well but I've done the exact same thing as plant 1.

Plant #1 is a beauty. Are they all same strain? Are they old bagseed, or did you buy new seeds?

Ya, They are all the same strain. I bought them from a dispensary and they are F1 seeds called "holy goat", Cross between LSD and Golden Goat.

I've found that its very critical to use the right color bulbs .you should be using 6500k or 5000k bulbs for starting and veg. along with keeping the lights real close to the plants 2 to 6 inches max.I myself would get rid of them 40s and get a bunch of y type adapters and 23 w bulbs and flood them with light and I bet your box temp is high now and would drop.every time I trieds to run 40s vs. 23s box temp got to hard to keep in the 70 to 85 range or humidity would get dry.And most of all read the grow weed easy beginners guide!!!and everything about growing with cfl s.best of luck to you.

All the bulbs that I a using are 6500k. Sorry i forgot to mention that. Yes it is really hot in there. On a hot day outside with the door open it gets to be 80 or above in there. Humidity is always low, possibly because I live in a typically very dry climate.

Do not spritz the leafs when dark....not a good practice to get into to
If you want added humidity put a bowl of water in there....

To raise humidty you can put little cups bowl or cans of water inside for evaporation purposes or buy a cool mist vaporizer for inside.

I don't know why, but I think number 3 is not developing a good root system. Over watering, under watering, just a bad seed. I don't know. Keep an eye on number one though. Won't be long till you should top and start some Low Stress Training. Just devour everything you can at the GWE site, especially the 'for beginners section". They have helped a lot of new growers get through the rough spots.

I have had problems with all of them being over watered. All three of the seeds soil fertile turned green. It happened to all three of them in the beginning. I scared the green stuff out and let the plants dry out for a couple of days then continued watering and everything has been fine.

How does it work at the dispensary. If you get a bum seed, will they give you a replacement?

No they don't give you a replacement. I don't know how exactly but they test the germination of the seeds. On the package I got them in it says "percentage of germination" 80%.

I'm not that experienced myself. Hopefully someone else will come along with better advice than I can give.

The dispensary's here do not sell seed/clones. Only finished flowers. No guarantees on seeds most of the time.

In colorado they sell seeds at dispensaries. I think it has to be F! seeds though.

Plant three repot it man....tap root has bottomed out long ago
Not even enough dirt in there to begin with.

Plant two looks over watered for sure...

I know the range for ph is 6 - 6.5. But never go above 6...ever....to easy to get higher from there.

Plant three was the one I've been having the most problems with obviously. Pretty sure I over watered two and three, although I gave them the exact same amount as plant 1. That led to the green stuff all on the top of the soil and I let them dry then watered them again and it kept happening. Resulting in no soil left in the cup. Rookie mistake, I guess.

Don't think I can help you rescue 2 and 3, but I wanted to share my CFL experience and a picture. Growing autoflower now, so photoperiod is not an issue My growing container is open at top (and bottom has air access), so heat is not an issue. Container is lined with reflective Mylar. I start out with a small number of 60 watt 6500K CFLS, then keep adding more until plant is soaking up about 8 of those lights. Then switch to 2700K for flowering. Always adjust lights to within inch or so from leaves. I'm on my 4th auto done this way, and have been rewarded with great harvests so far, and the plant pictured is blowing me away with its growth. Hope you can figure out the issue...#1 looks super healthy! Happy growing! 🌻

The seedlings in the big pot that are struggling are just a little overwatered. It's hard to get watering right in a big container when they're little, but once they get a little bigger it'll be a lot easier because they'll be drinking a lot more so the soil will dry up more quickly. I think they'll snap out of it with a little TLC (if they haven't already since you posted two days ago)! The seedling in the solo cup almost looks underwatered, or at least the soil looks a little dry. It's tough to overwater them in a solo cup, but easy to overwater in a big container Definitely post some updated pictures but overall they look green and growing!
