    Juvenile plants are budding

This question is for my dad. He bought some plants and gave me one. Mine looks great, it’s tall and bushy but his four don’t look too good. He was worried about frost so kept putting them in the garage at night. I guess they didn’t get enough light and started budding. From far they look like a golf ball on a tee. A 4-5” stem and a 6” ball of tiny leaves and little buds on top. He started leaving the plants out all day and night for the last couple weeks but now nothing seems to be growing. What will happen to these plants? Will the buds eventually grow?

They may reveg if left outside, sounds like they think they are near finished. IF they are autos they are done for.
