    Fan Leaves

I have a couple plants I have fim’ed and I’m now do LST on. My question is regarding removing fan leaves. I have several very large ones then a lot of smaller ones. The larger ones are blocking the sun from the lower smaller leaves and new Lola spots. Still in veg. Should I remove these fan leaves to allow sun to the smaller leaves. There’s only about 5 large leaves (5” or so) then a lot of small leaves 1-2”. I’m always worried I’ll take to much for the plant to take in enough sun energy.

Yea if its blocking lower growth you can remove it. However using the sun that moves over plants instead of being stationary over plants like a indoor light. Defoliation isn't as neccessary. I'll do either or whichever I feel is more beneficial at the time. I'll run autos outdoors perpetually year round. Normally I'll just let them grow normally.

If you live in a humid climate defoliation will help with mold and mildew. Allowing air to circulate through plants canopy keeping moisture at bay.

Defoliation and lst are mainly for indoor growing to eliminate larf bud that doesn't get adequate lighting. Indoor lights cant compete with suns strength or penetration of plants canopy.

Sorry lol last piece of advise, if you like the strain your growing dont buy it again unless you popped all the beans you had. I'll buy the minimum amount I can normally I'll use Pacific seed bank since you only have to buy 3 beans for 30$ paying by mail you get 3 free so 6 seeds for 30$ I'll pop 2 if I like the strain I'll use tiresias mist off Amazon and make more seeds using that third bean. You can do this to autos or photos, without doing anything special just letting air movement spread the pollen I'll get 150 to 200 seeds you can use a arts and crafts paint brush to help dust pollen and get more if you wanted

GroBuddy thanks for the help. Appreciate it. I am definitely way to cheap to keep buying plants. We are legal here in Canada so I’ve been popping in the pot shop and grab a few grams of what I plan to grow. If I like it I’ll buy a few seeds from
Canuck seeds. Then I’ll take clones from those plants and keep a mother plant of that strain. Have one right now in the tent from a clone then just started a couple more seeds and get those cloned for mother’s. I’ve actually had really good success with clones and given my family quite a few. I’m way to cheap to keep buying expensive seeds when cloning is so easy. I do like the sounds of 200 free seeds though so might have to try that out as I have a few seeds left over from my last order. I bought 2 of each strain I wanted thinking germination rates might be low. Only had 1 seed out of 5 not pop. It was a free seed as well so wasn’t to worried and legally can only have 4 plants anyways.

I hear that, that's awesome. Personally I need as many options that I can have lol so growing many like 15 different strains a year then cross breeding is more my cup of tea.

Defoliation inside is good, outside not so good, the sun has way more penetration than our lights, the only time to defoliate an outside plant is high RH and leaves touching. Those "fan leaves" are storage tanks that the plant can feed on if/when needed.
