What are the reasons for letting water levels drop below the net pot after roots are in the water ? This is only my second indoor grow and this is what I'm seeing..... my first dwc grow , I kept my level about an inch up on the net pot the whole grow. The roots grew massively from the sides and bottom. Very healthy , root ball filled the whole bucket at the end. This second grow , after the roots hit the water , I gradually let the level fall to an inch below the net pot.... so.. these roots are only coming out of the bottom. Thus.... my question.

It gives the root an air space. In soil and coco coir, there are air spaces for the roots (that is why it is so important to have the growing media light and airy). The Ebb and Flow systems periodically flood and drain the planters to allow the air to get to the roots. The roots will grow towards the water, wherever it is, sides or bottom.I keep about a two inch gap and use a continuous water feed to encourage the roots to grow down into the reservoir where they grow into a large mass of roots. I suppose that as long as the water is highly oxygenated, you could keep the water level higher.Smoke weed,.....grow peace!
