I think I just want to complain, really.
Only 5 out of 12 beans which I started with last Friday's full moon have popped. But I guess it's not as bad as it sounds.
3 bagseeds: 0 out of 3. Not a surprise. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. It's not like I had much invested in them!
4 freebie Rainbow Serpent, regular (Bodhi Seeds): 1 out of 4. I am gathering the impression that freebie seeds seem to be of lower quality than the ones that are purchased, with lower germination rates. Will see if it's male or female. Does this seem like a typical germination rate for your freebie seeds?
5 freebie DJ Short Flo, regular (Old World Genetics): 4 out of 5 These were very well-packaged for freebies and I think they are probably from sellable stock, since they were part of a special promo, not just thrown in with my order. This is more like the germination rate I would expect from purchased seeds. Now, how many will be female? This strain is supposed to have multiple harvests. You cut off the buds, then more grow and ripen! I wonder how that works? Has anyone done that before? Does it work in a tent or is it just an outdoor thing?
The above freebies came with my order from JBC seeds. My next grow will be DJ Short Blueberry, which is the strain that I ordered (in both indica and sativa versions). Those were expensive, so I'm doing my first photoperiod grow with the freebies before I pop the spendy ones and potentially screw them up. And hoping I don't kill the Flo, which is apparently also a pricey heritage strain and should be an interesting result.
12 seeds... how many female plants will I end up with?
This is going to help me figure out how many of the Blueberry I should pop next time to get the number of females I want. I'n not sure if it's better to do all 13 seeds at once, cull the males, and keep the (best) females as mothers for clones or keep some seeds on-hand "just in case."
