    Boveda (humidity) packs? Should I?

Just curious if everyone uses these?
Would you use them if they were free?
    I have 3 humidity levels… 55%, 58% and 62%
    Thoughts?

    Cheers,
    SwitchH2O

62.5% is ideal, I use them all the time. I would NOT USE the other ones you posted too dry.

Hylids.com - They have digital, but with the analog I don't have to worry about batteries. I'm an old.

I dry mine to 70% and freeze them in quart jars. Try to keep them there when the jar is 'in use'. But I find anything below that too dry and the stuff crumbles.

            Just my 40 pesos....

I use the Boveda packs. I like 62.5 best. The others are too dry for my tastes. I like the Hylids. Imma check them out. I use burp lids for my wide mouth jars. I use the boveda packs in conjunction with the Burp Lids. I've had a small hygrometer in a jar or two just to check accuracy of the Bovedas.

Hylids carry curing buckets with burp vents.

Howdy SwitchH2O. I don't use any humidity packs at all. I use a very scientific method (LOL!!) of giving the buds a gentile squeeze to test their moisture level, if they have a little 'spring back', I jar them up and cure them in the refrigerator. I do not 'burp' the jars because every time the jar is opened, it allows any mold or fungus spores in the ambient air into the jar as well as oxygen (which can help mold to form).

I've been using the Boveda 62% packs during my cure and I like them a lot. It seems that by the time my stems are dry enough to snap, the buds are already around 50% humidity and the Boveda packs bring them back up to 62% so curing can complete.

As the packs give up moisture, some of the gel iinside of them hardens and you can feel it as a hard lump when you squeeze them. When they get like that, I stick them inside a jar, standing beside a shot glass full of water. I put a few drops of peroxide into the water if I have it handy. Then I lid up the jar and let it sit upright on a shelf. This rehydrates the packs so I can keep using them indefinitely. The packs aren't in the water, mind you, the water is in the shot glass. The whole shot glass is inside the jar with the packs, dry, alongside it, so they can absorb the vapour but not be touching the liquid.

The Boveda packs are pretty cheap and so are the mini humidity monitors to put in your jars (or other container) which I think you'd want to use in tandem with the Boveda packs so you can monitor the humidity level. You'd probably want to get the monitors first, then add the humidity packs if your bud is too dry. While the optimum humidity level is a matter of personal preference, with the monitor you will be able to determine exactly what that level is, to know what you are aiming for and how far from that target you are. Then you can use the Boveda packs to get (or keep) you there.

So, there you go, everybody has their own way of drying and curing! So it's totally up to you on what you want! Methods do vary!

I agree absolutely! I only posted what I have done and what worked for me, in my circumstances, and I have no idea if it will apply in anyone else's situation. YMMV! Do what seems best for you!

If you dry and cure properly, you won’t need them. Personally I think they alter smell & taste

I have not had issues with taste or smell being affected so for me it does not apply.
