I purchased some feminized Chemdawg seeds and got two nice plants. I took a clone from one and just harvested it to find a LOT of seeds in it's lower branches. I didn't notice any on the parent plant, harvested last month. I'm very surprised and confused. Why did this happen and will those seeds be viable?

Hmmm never grew that strain. But heck something stressed her perhaps early on? Interesting catch, do they look like nice stripe brownish seeds?Smoke Ganja create Peace Respect Nature don't trash the Planet

Stress, like from..?
It was just harvested, so the seeds are still green, large and healthy looking (and taste good). So I don't know yet if they will even be viable.
I really hope the mother plant will be good. It wasn't stinking up the place so I probably needed to give it a terpine booster (I am this time). Chemdawg was one of the top rated medical grade strains in UK. My best friend is suffering horribly with MS. I'm desperate to help.

I'm sorry about your friend i've grown strains for others also in the past. Never seen color green on seeds. Immature white seeds i've had. If they go way past harvest and were not stable in the grow environment things go wrong an confuse the plant. May sound like BS but if you think back on how they were started, vegged and kept alive did anything get interrupted?Smoke Ganja create Peace Respect Nature don't trash the Planet

Well, I suppose those seed are white but while on the flower, they are encased in the green cover. I have plucked a few to taste and they are definitely seeds, they just haven't hardened yet.
The seedy clone was in my original grow closet and experienced temp fluxes from 62F to up to 80F after I'd run a space heater. Do you think the inconsistent temp fluxes stressed the clone enough to cause it to seed? Do you think those seeds will be viable?
Otherwise, I kept to a good feeding schedule, no visual distress on the plant like burnt tips. A fan was a bit strong on one side, but I would rotate the plant a 1/4 to quarter turn every other day and mostly avoided wind burn, although a few leaves shriveled.

Was the clone taken in flower? That could cause stress and hermie it.
If the seeds are hard they will likely grow (and be female), but may carry the hermie trait.

No. I take clones before setting to flower. The mother plant is still in jars, curing but I didn't notice any seeds on her. This one clone is full of seeds and was kept in a different location, since clones need 24/7 light. My "other" grow room is a closet, not a tent and I had temperature fluctuations, however, it seemed like a happy plant with no issues with only light defoliation in flowering. (in my most recent test, an untrained, light defol yielded more than a trained, medium defoliated plant)

I have been finding random seeds in my buds. I am currently getting ready to harvest the first one I found. Based on looks I m excited to harvest. Bagseed does not have a good reputation, and I acted more out of wondering. Why not just take it a step at a time (will it germinate?). Just be on look out for plant herming. I purchased unsexed seeds a couple of years ago and being a newby, I couldn't sex the plants and my Thai Stick plant got pollinated by the second plant from the seeds. I got a Thai Stick with a lot of seeds! I saved them and tried again and the potency and yield was impressive! I cloned from that plant and have more seeds but the new clone didn't take and I'll need to use the seeds. I just hope this new strain will yield some viable, strong seeds and plants. I just don't understand why a clone would seed when the mother plant didn't and what happened to make it do so.

ladygoldfish if the mother was in flower when the cuttings were taken, the stress could have hermied them, or the plant may carry the hermie trait (genetics).
