What can I do better next time?

    Greetings all,

Attached are photos of my first grow - “Critical Purple Autoflower”
I planted it on December 10th (92 days ago), and went at it with just a light but nothing else. Our apartment is well temperature controlled, however. As a first time grower it was certainly amusing to see it grow before my eyes (literally by the hour it seemed), but I also know that this plant is on the rather tall and skinny side. Here are my questions I had in mind that I’d very much appreciate some answers/opinions on. Any other thoughts and comments are very welcomed as my hope is to gather feedback and improve for the next time. I will note that I transferred it from a small pot to a mega pot 34 days after planting. *Have pruned fan leaves over the past couple weeks*

    Questions :

How impactful was the lack of a tent + fan?
Was this pot overwhelmingly large for the plant?
Does the plant seem malnourished for the stage of life it is in?

    Do autoflowers require specific treatment?
Do I need to just wait a little longer and this is destined to be a monster? (I read somehwr

Thank you very much for any feedback!

You are off to the start of a journey.

First impression, fine house plant. If you want to improve, I would start with a better light. With a proper light, if this is in the living space with out a tent, you will need shades inside. Imo at least 1/2 of your budget should go to the light. You did not provide much info on the grow, medium, nutes? Some adjustments and you will have a fine grow. I would recommend starting with photos for your first grow. Check the main GWE site for mountains of information.

Any recommendation on the best light, soil + nutrients? As for this grow I just grabbed whatever bag of soil we had and got after it lol! Still have 2 seeds to my name which is nice. As for the pot It’s gotta be about 12-14 gallons but it’s not entirely filled to the top. If too big is there a chance for the roots to actually grow too far out and stretch long and skinny?

        Hi The Guy,

I grew 4 autos in my second grow and critical purple was one. Under a decent light, ph’d water and nutes, this is what it looked like at 40 days. It ended up yielding 14 grams and was the strongest strain. Unfortunately I gave half of it away before I tried it. Wish I would have given away the White Widow.

I agree with CK, light should be half your budget. If I had to do it over again, I would have purchased stronger lights.

I, myself, was glad I started with autos. It allowed me to screw up and not feel guilty about the time invested. Although they are touchy and stunt easily. I ended up with two oz in that grow, so that will keep me going while I’m working on my photos. I’m totally addicted - it’s so challenging, but rewarding.

Wow, 40 days is unreal… over double that on this end and the flowers are coming through now. Thank you for the breakdown of your setup! And I like your dog too
