Will these work for supplemental lighting??

    Hey everyone,

Just bought a couple of these at my local hardware store.

I initially bought a cool white 6500k one to get clones started, and for the price I couldn't resist grabbing a couple of 3000k ones (2150lm) to throw in my tent where the PAR drops off from my COBs. I figure it can't hurt (?).

They're supposed to be equivalent to a 45w CFL, and it seemed like a good fit for my objective to grow some half decent bud with low energy use.
As you can see in the pics, when I removed the diffuser it looks a bit like a mini quantum board.
If they aren't useful I'll just pop the diffusers back on and use them in the house.

    Thoughts appreciated!
    2.5x2.5x6' tent
    2x 55w COB veg, 400w HPS flower
Coco/perlite with mycorrhizal mix in fabric bags
2-part base nutes + veg/bloom boosts, bud boost, calmag
Carbon filter/exhaust, 6" oscillating fan, usb static fan
Gear and controllers for heat/humitidy used as needed

    Strain unknown

I use what's recommended for growing weed. I guess you could use them for starting seedlings until you buy a real good Q board LED for serious grows.

    1 36"x36"x66" tent- Viparspectra P2500
1 3x3x6 tent- used in late spring for seedlings both veggies & weed. I have 2 viparspectar 450r for that tent.
    I use a t-5 & 54watt CFL for seedlings
Sometimes i use plastic sometimes i use fabric grow containers

There's a plethora of cheap lights out there. Most are made to help people see. They aren't necessarily sufficient for growing plants.
Don't worry, be happy, grow sticky buds.

        Thanks for the feedback,

Yeah I'm fully aware they're not designed for growing, but in saying that neither are a lot of the CFLs and whatnot that people use in grows, and in some of the tutorials on the main site. Those people seem to get some reasonable results with those bulbs alone, so I thought as a supplemental light it couldn't hurt to try it in tandem with my COBs.

I'm not so naive as to expect them to perform the same as a light that's specifically engineered to grow under, I just thought they might help bolster the fringes of my main lights penetration area.

My goal is to grow a reasonable quality small crop with reasonable yields, while keeping electricity use low.
I'm not looking to chase ultimate yield/concrete dense buds yet as I'm still learning the ropes.

OK then were just here to give you our grow experiences so go on and do as you wish. My thought is why waste the time an expense in it's going to take upwards of 4months anyway indoors you do realize that don't you??

It may help you to understand how a plant grows, just don’t expect to harvest anything.
