I started with Nirvana years ago. My first purchases were for feminized seeds at their normal prices. I would purchase just a few I think that you could order as few as 3 seeds at that time. I had great luck with this.
Then I started purchasing 5 packs of seeds on sale. Figuring that I could store them in the refrigerator and they would keep for years. Where I live we are limited to 6 plants in veg and 6 in flower so I would purchase 12 different varieties in 5 packs for each variety on sale. What I noticed is that the germination rate and harvest weight seemed to fall with my 'sale seeds'. To be fair I am always trying new nutrient regimens in an effort to get the best yields with organic or mostly organic nutrients and soil. Based on other posts it seems that Nirvana has had quality issues recently. To be fair I have wondered if their seeds that go on sale are like meat or produce that goes on sale because it is approaching the time when it will go bad.
My current practice is to purchase my seeds at retail in the smallest packs available. Also if for example, I know another grower who is growing let's say Northern Light I will see if he or she wants to 'split' a 5 pack with me. I have also started planting multiples of particular varieties I like, for example Northern Light and Misty Kush. For example my current grow is two Misty Kush, two Northern Light and two Wonder Woman. I grow 2 'crops' a year grouping them by photo period as much as possible. I start my second grow about 2 months before I will have my first grow harvested and in jars. I am also trying to settle on fewer varieties to grow at a time. Ideally I would have only 2 or 3 varieties in each grow . This would mean that I would use up a 5 pack in 2 - 2½ years max if I did not split an order or trade out any seeds.
I have recently ordered from www.seedsupreme.com per this site's recommendation which I trust. Having said that the next step is finding the best breeders for a particular variety. One nice thing about www.seedsupreme.com is that they do carry seeds from some of the top breeders like Sensi and Barney's Farm.
For me Cannabis varieties are like craft beer, there are so many good options to choose from and it is hard not to continually try new ones.
Buddy I apologize for a long answer to a short question. I am very analytical but I think my answer will help you.
