Happy Monday. Three healthy ladies left and one in the drying box. Wanted to touch on a few things I am observing during this grow. First my compost seems high on the nitrogen side this go around. All 4 have more than enough. In scarlets case a little too much. Her fan leaves were very dark and leathery. Trizzlers is dark green but barely any burnt tips. She was very leaf heavy during veg and after 3 weeks flower I have been thinning her out some. Mango and braapzai love it. I did mix a lot of fish scraps and crab shells in the heap early fall so I think it didn't cook quite long enough. I'll give scarlet another chance on a smaller pot but gas reaper is vague on the plants characteristics. And my fault too for not knowing if it had the ability to grow into a large pot and still trying. Trizzlers and mango both state the plants can get big and they did. Both may be 90 + day plants.
second I have been keeping an eye on my waters pH and I always have but this run I used creek water only and it ph'd at 6.25- 7. Mostly 6.5 or above though. I supplemented the soil with dolomite lime but can't break myself of the habit. Plus it is good to know in case of problems. My well water tests 5.25-5.5 and even with lime I've run into lockout issues authough the formula is a work in progress.
Maybe next run I will give one plant well water only and do a comparison run.
Was happy to see that scarlets planter soil was still full of earthworms when I dumped it out. Shows the soil was alive and healthy. You want good living soil? Go to your local bait store and get a dozen red wigglers and dump them in your planters soil. They are nothing but awesome. All the beneficial bacteria you need for 2.99 a dozen.
