Strains: these are from seeds I had saved from the different smoke I acquired during this year and all good stuff. From what I see, I have 5 - 6 Sativa and the others are Indica or possibly hybrids (which I doubt but you never know what you get using "bagged seeds") So as far as "names" I have no idea what they could be, all I know is where seeds came from was bomb smoke! 2 skunky, 3 kind of fruity, and the other 2 are hard to distinguish.

***UPDATE*** - 12/12/2021. Today marks week seven of flower for the ladies and getting close to that harvest time window of week 8 - 10 for Indica, which I believe I have 1. I was watering them this morning and was really taking a close look at the leaves to make sure I am picking the right plant at the right time as this one smells really fruity, the hairs are really starting to change color more pronounced as compared to my other plants. These would almost fool you for being sativa but what I did notice was they weren't quite as long and just a little more fatter than my skinny Sativa plants which tends me to believe this is on the Indica side. What do you think??? It was a little difficult taking a couple of these as I was sitting on the floor... Click image for larger version

***UPDATE CONTINUED*** And here are the others I do believe are solid Sativas as you can see how much skinnier these are...Buds are all in different stages of growth as you can also see by the hair coloring... This one is next to the Indica plant in previous post... Click image for larger version

Sativa #4... Isn't it something how you feed all your plants the exact same mixes for nutrients and get different reactions? This one seems to be more sensitive as compared to the others as you can see some discoloration of the leaves and maybe some nute burn too. This is the 2nd tallest plant... Cannot tell you what strains they are as I never keep track of what I get or remember what I bought BUT they all came from the smoke that was purchased and seeds were very far and few in between almost rare to get any. I do believe I have 1 that is Indica and possibly be ready to harvest this week as it is 8 weeks and 1 day today. very sugary and smells like sweet fruit! about 3 to 3 1/2 ft tall.

The others are for sure all Sativa and at different stages of maturity (these are at 8 weeks and 1 day into flower as well). There was 1 Sativa I did trim up (lower branches, wasted plant energy) at 6 weeks old, let the popcorn buds dry in a tray for a couple of days and WOW!!! The flavor, taste, smell, and burnability was all 5 stars!!! No choking or hacking, smooth to the palate. And what a buzz! Wake up smiling, ready to go!!! And the buzz lasts quite a long time!!!

So now, after all these grows. it makes me wonder as far as flowering "windows" and letting the trichomes rule when to harvest a completely separate issue as this Sativa I did at 6 weeks was all white and good to go!!! I am now thinking "get to the window stage and then let trichomes predict when to harvest even if it is early???"

That is my big question now as before I always waited to get to the "window" then pick before trichomes turned amber and sometimes it's good, then sometimes so-so. So do you really go by how long in flower or let the trichomes dictate harvest???

I almost want to harvest all of them now but doing so might not be the right move as I always strive to get it at "peak" picking time. I may wait until the beginning of week 10 watching the trichomes to harvest all the Sativas I have BUT the Indica is coming down this week before week 9 gets here next week-end.

Yes, I do have a usb microscope but it is so hard to keep it still to get a good look at the sugar on the plant. I would have to cut off a bud (where do I cut one off? Top, middle, or bottom?) Hmmm... then look under microscope (has a stand). Jeweler's loupe or magnifying glass work O.K. BUT the better you can see the sugar the better idea you have to harvest.

***UPDATE*** - 12/20/2021 12:40pm. Playing with my new toy to help me get a better look at my trichomes on the Indica plant that sacrificed a bud for medical examination (he, he, he) This one is at 8 weeks and 1 day into flower. Here are some shots taken with my microscope. I have found at this stage very very few yellow to amber (almost a light tea color) colored trichomes, the majority is white with still some clear ones in there too. Since I do see yellow to amber now showing, I think it's time to take this one down.

***UPDATE*** Continued... So, as you can see, I do have a mix of everything some tea-colored amber/yellow/gold, a lot of white and some clear one too spread thru out the bud. Now that the tea-colored yellow/amber/gold color has shown itself and I have a majority of white with some clear ones I believe this one is ready for harvest I would love to see what the rest of the plant looks like but hard to do holding this thing by hand, not easy to do as it is a microscope to be used with a stand. 1000 times better than a jeweler's loupe or a magnifying glass for sure, you can't get more precise than this.

IF this is what I see, then even trichomes cannot be considered "an even coating" because they are all individual stems, and all have their own growth rates as well.

I will have to wait and see after I cut it down to get a look at the other buds.

See i get what your saying i have the same outcomes at times. If i don't rotate enough some branches get attention to the lights. I think you know by the looks and the drying/curing.

                      #28
Look at it this way, outdoors the plants follow the sun so they don't really "rotate" just kind of bend or sway from side to side. Indoors they don't have that option as lights are directly overhead and only movement they get is from the airflow from ceiling fan. But in turn yes you can rotate the plants under light depending on how you grow the plant. I usually don't rotate them but I will align the main parts of the plant to get the maximum light down onto the plant (since I use t8 shop lights), as you can see by my pictures and just depends also how where those branches are coming up too. They will tend to grow in an "X" pattern as I have done this with LST, so the spread is even bigger.

So back to the Trichomes, to me, I don't think it's much the lighting, it's all built into the plant itself and I think it falls under the classification of a "majority rule" when it come to the final colors and what you get, you just have to make that decision and it's still a guessing game but I think this really led me down the right road this time. I have modified my way of time period vs trichomes after this grow for sure.

And the Indica is in the bag. It smells soooo good I can't wait to sample this one!

***UPDATE*** Merry Christmas to everyone! Today marks week 9 of flower and I have already cut down my Indica last Monday and 1 Sativa (the tall one) a couple of days ago. My usb microscope show the Sativa to be at almost "majority rule" milky white with a few clear one here and there, no amber visible. The aroma is unbelievable, and I can't wait to sample it.

My drying and curing closet: temp is between 66 - 70 degrees and the humidity is at 50%. (I know it should be lower but I don't have a dehumidifier, but slow drying is best) It took 5 days to get the Indica dry enough to jar for curing and the sativa has only had 2 days drying but doing very good.

This time around I went straight to the buds (no "on the stem" drying as the weather of course plays a factor where I live) and put them in brown paper bags or a cardboard box sitting on top of my light assemblies just that it helps warm it up just enough to help dry for 1 -2 days (I do rotate the box for even heat distribution) then aluminum trays to finish drying.

I have taken sample from the other 5 plants and did a trichome inspection per sample and these looked just about the same as the 1 I cut down the other day so I am giving them a little more time, they may be ready for harvest between now and next week Sunday (week 10 of flower).

I haven't had time to take new pics but will do so later on...

Nothing like getting Christmas and New Years buds at the end of the year!!!
