Bob Ross Hated His 'Fro (a poem)

Anesthesia-free sedation is now available on Netflix
Trip on happy little clouds,
there are no mistakes, only happy accidents
Under a deeply respectable fro.

But the mellowest dude ever grew to hate that bush,
a post-military hair stunt of which
he hadn't tired before he was discovered
And could never shear the most important brush on his palette.

But learning that it was a perm, covering over
meticulous tyranny, preparing, rehearsing, sweating,
was like the time we got a shaggy puppy, and we named him Bob.
When he grew big enough, grandma cooked him for dinner because we're korean.

But that sheep was branded, Bob knew
more than pushing paint,
he was pushing happy
That's commitment, man.

My mother bought a paint set and watched his show everyday (or however often it was on). She would follow along. I have one of her 'Bob Ross' paintings - stored in the attic. LOL

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. NPR interviewed Bob Ross' agent who told the story of how they met, great story. In it, she shares how he actually worked his ass off to make each episode look as effortless as it did. I found it liberating. And he really did hate his afro. You have to hear it.
