I don’t think I gave these plants enough time to get used to the new pots before going to 12/12. They stunted a little for a few days and it took almost a week to see any signs of flower after the switch. They just finished week 1 of flower and growing like weeds now. I’ll give them a few more days to fill the screens then I’m thinning them out a little. As you can see, there’s a lot of bud sites inside those 14”x15” spaces

There aren’t many comments on this thread but it is being viewed so after finding some old pics of a actual scrog’d plant I thought we’re deleted I’m doing some editing. The Cali Dream on post number 1 was NOT scrog’d. I believe I stated this before but wanted to clarify. I only used the pictures to show a big full screen but it’s no more of a scrog than the pics I keep seeing on GWE of someone placing a net in their tent, allowing the plants to grow through it and posting a pic of their scrog. Scrig? You just let your plant grow through a net, zero technique. Not a ScrOG. Therefore I deleted the Cali Dream pics and replaced with the Chocolope for accuracy.

This post is reminding me why I hated writing papers in college. My mind is all over the damn place when I try to put something like this in order but I promise I’ll eventually pull it all together and make sense out if it. For everyone who’s following, hopefully you get results. Not a pretty plant, but results! Once this is over I may clean it up and redo it in a better order once I can see it as a whole and make sense of it. If so that will be a new post, not a newer edited version of this one.

Very true Grouchy! On a busy GWE day, that post may get buried a couple pages back quick. Funny you said this because I actually was scrolling through a few weekends ago and found a post from way back I’m going to build on. Dude had a good idea for training, I believe I’ve improved it😁 my next grow just got potted up from cups, another round of four. I may try something epic after that because BU2B proved, pics of massive indoor plants are just cool

I agree with what newbutoldgrower75 is saying about feeling hesitant as a new grower to post on someone else's thread who clearly knows much more. I posted a few things on the autoflower training topic by Canuck147 and felt real bad like I was high-jacking his thread with my dumb questions lol I still subscribe to it and check out every new post on it but now when I have a question I have just been making my own thread. I'll definitely be following this one too lol I think my 2x4x5 tent might be difficult to do SCROG in and still be able to get at everything but it is still very useful information for when I upgrade for future grows. I would say definitely don't be discouraged by lack of posts on this thread, you are still helping many people possibly increase their yield or even simply helping them find more enjoyable ways to grow. I for one have been really enjoying training my plants with LST after getting so much information from the GWE community.

Appreciate the kind words! In 2x4 tent you’d either do 1 really big plant, 2 big plants or 3 medium ones. Depth is always my nemesis growing in smaller tents. Glad you’re enjoy the site! Lots of valuable info on GWE and the forum

Thanks newbutoldgrower75, hopefully it’s useful. I got tired of buying dirt weed a long time ago and started growing but not consistently, just enough to keep a supply. Thanks to covid, working from home and stumbling upon GWE my grows have got considerably better the last year. You have the space, grow a lot of plants and that learning curve gets really short 😉

Ok, so I can make new post I just can’t add any more to the original. GWE must limit your edits lol so I’ll keep this one going

My son had a baseball game so I didn’t have much time in the tents this evening. I did snap a few pics to point some things out. Notice all the little stuff in the center that’s not so little anymore and starting to grow up. At this point the screens are mostly full other than chasing the corners. Tomorrow I’m going to thin them out and let the outer colas grow up. If they get big enough to move to another opening in the next couple days I will but at this point it’s about keeping a level canopy and there’s nowhere to move the stuff in the center.

It has been very useful to me buddy, really thinking about doing ScrOG on my next grow, think it will help improve my grows and growing style. I'm going to make my own screen to fit 6ft x 4ft of my 6ft x 6ft tent, which 3 x ES300's should cover nicely. Im sure I will have a few questions for you, if you don't mind, as I go over your tutorial in the next couple of months as I setup etc. Are there any specific sort of strains that are better to do ScrOG with? With what has happened in my tent lately, I'm going to bin my clones that I have growing and get some fresh seeds.

I have learnt a lot about growing from the GWE website and from your great people that have helped me with my last two grows, first two grows indoors for 15 years. The problem I'm having at the moment is remembering what I have learnt and concentrating on what I am doing, damn medication they have me on is pretty damn strong. Im looking at setting up another tent just for vegetation, and another down the track for Autoflowers. So hoping my learning curve gets shorter as Im growing more plants. Just have to be careful where I am, MJ is only decriminalised unfortunately for now. Keep up the good work mate, you are doing a great job. Cheers

        PS loving these pics..wow

I like for the simplicity really. That and results. Other methods I worry if I took to much off the plants or did I leave too much on it. Those concerns are eliminated. Yield isn’t a issue but bang for my buck is. Figure if I’m going to pay $35-40 a month to run my tent, I want all the oz’s out of that I can get. Even if they’re stored for a while we’ll eventually smoke it

The girls got haircuts today and right now they aren’t very happy. Afterwards I took them out for a nice dinner so their spirits should perk up soon. Since I read Nebula’s article on defoliation I’ve stuck to that schedule but we’re deviating here. These girls just got way too thick. I’ve grown a lot of GG and they’ve always been decent sized plants with nodes spaced 2-3” apart but this one is compact with tight nodes. Would’ve made a great manifold. First time I’ve grown White Widow and it’s tight and compact as well. Should have two full screens of fat buds in a few wks.

Full tent pic on 100%. We got Barney’s (left) vs ILGM (right) Love these Electric Sky’s. Turned down they’re mostly white and easy on the eyes. Crank the juice up and the red spectrum really comes out.

The girls recovered well. 31 colas coming up on the Gorilla Glue, 37 on the White Widow. There are more bud sites exposed in the pics but I’m only counting the ones that are a couple inches above the screen. For the next week I won’t do much but look at them and pick the pots up to see if they need watered. Next weekend I’ll remove any colas that are lagging behind and not up to the canopy. The lower stuff just draws energy so I get it out of there. I’ll also remove any skinny stems even if they reached the canopy. Those seem to never produce a big top, just a nice nugget to pack a pipe with a couple times so I remove wk 3.

Just thinking out loud here on trimming the lower stuff on the Gorilla Glue ... Referring to the GG#4 you commented on in my nute differential post. Just like my sativa-dominant Blue Dream is a nitrogen hog and a light hog, the indica-dominant GG#4 not only isn't nitro hungry, but it really doesn't like intense light very much. I can put my Blue Dream plants much closer to my Vipar Spectra 450s than I can the GG. Right now the Blue Dream is in its 3rd week of flower and I have it about 9" from the lights, and no sign of stress. I tried putting the mature vegging GG to 16" and I burned some tips. Now it's back down to 25" and loving it. And it is SO bushy. I keep on wanting to pet it like a dog. And the bushiness goes deep. And so much of the thickness has come from below. So I'm wondering just how much to trim below. I did some trimming today, and thought about your post about spreading your plants out, because I can't do that in my 2x2 and 2x4 spaces. So I trimmed off all those laterals you spread out. I chuckled and thought I'd send them to you and you could Gorilla Glue them on. Instead I threw them in the cloner. Anyway, I'd been thinking about not trimming them much. Your thoughts? (PS, I'm pretty high right now.)

GG is fine smoke, probably one of our favs but she’s a picky one. Especially the GG autos, slight stress once flowering and you’ll get seeds. Been my experience anyways.

I had the GG in the middle, directly under the ES300 Bc she was lagging behind but she didn’t seem to like it. Once I raised the little ones closer to canopy level I moved her to the outer edge and put the White Widow center and now they’re both happy so I think you’re onto something about GG not liking intense light. I just finished a auto grow with a GG and a Girl Scout Cookies, same sized plants snd the GG tops were slightly burned while the GSC was praying to the LED gods everyday lol

I used to grow in a 2.5ft x 5ft tent so I’m aware what it’s like being too crowded to spread them out to get them side branches. I always removed any lateral branches growing towards the outside and leave the good ones growing towards the inside. By good I mean thick stems. Anything that hasn’t thicker up by week 3 of flower I remove. Those skinny stems don’t produce big fat colas

The White Widow grew some more so I thought I’d explain a little more. That too is a few inches above the screen and it’s leaves are covering smaller buds that still have potential to become colas. Gently pull it down snd over to the next opening. I like to arrange it so the screen goes between nodes on the stem so no buds get smashed. Now leave the smaller colas in the opening by themselves and spread them
out best as possible. Remove that leaf that’s growing up snd over the smaller bud sites. Now that tall cola is the same height as the smaller stuff and they’ll be able to become tops themselves. Week 3 I like to go through each opening snd remove small skinny stems. Preferably I like no more than 2 colas growing throw an opening. Sometimes you can get away with three but it gets dense in there as the buds fatten up and you want plenty of air flow.

I run 4 fans in my tent; 2 at the top over the lights, one at canopy level and another on the floor. Good airflow is imperative with this technique. If not bud rot will likely get to the center colas before harvest. Thought I’d throw that one in there 🤔

Again, if anyone has questions about something ask. I’m trying to think of details but there a lot if habits you develop over the years that becomes 2nd nature and a may go overlooked as a important detail. The other day Canuck147 on his auto grow mentioned how anytime he gives his plants a haircut he does it on a watering day because they respond better. I do the same thing. Whenever a plant is big enough to start training I wait until a watering day, they bounce back better. It’s like when you workout, gotta eat and rest to recover properly, same thing with plants . Anyways, that was a small detail that may go unmentioned so I thought that was a nice tidbit he added.

Ok, Saturday night. Cowboy gonna whip somebody’s ass tonight ( hopefully) 🙏🏻 Time to burn a fattie and watch some UFC

I'm following with great interest, and adapting to my own needs. I've just started using 18" perennial flower supports. They don't have a lot of slots on the outer perimeter, but I think I can adapt with small dowels and bamboo supports. They are virtually the same diameter as my 10-gallion pots and allow me to rotate the pots inside the 2'-square boxes I have for them. Right now my 3-weeks-into-flip Blue Dream towers 12" above the support. Space and timing considerations are delaying the flip of ghe GG#4 until this weekend. I placed the support Saturday and it started growing through the support the next day. Keep up the good work as I try to tag along in my own way. Thank you!

Sativas are always fun paired with something else. I use the tomato rings by themselves if I do a manifold or with autos to help spread them out

Hey Bboy, little tidbits like that are invaluable! Another reason I think this thread is the Essential Scrog Tutorial. You not only explain it, you show it in progress. "Tuck em UNDER dammit!"

Things finally starting to get back to normal in 2021 and baseball be consuming once again. Unfortunately, that leads to neglected plants from time to time. The three big plants are unhappy tonight, guess I was a day behind on watering. I knew it was a feed and just didn’t feel like mixing, watering and removing runoff last night. On the positive that Dos Si Dos is already falling over 👍🏻 Week 6 feed with first dose of molasses tonight, bout to give them some support

Its mid week 3 for the Gorilla Glue and White Widow. I missed all four corners on the GG and two corners on the WW. They’re not growing much height wise now so tomorrow evening I’m going to thin them out just a bit more to get the centers thinned out a little bit then sit back snd watch them buds get fat. The taller cola on the GG up front is already white from the screen to the top. Love me some Glue

Got the girls thinned out a bit but nothing major. The White Widow has a bunch of buds in the center that are only about 1” above the screen but they’re already getting thick so I left them. I just get the humidity down mid 40’s. With plenty of air she’ll be fine. Got the Dos Si Dos stood back up. Happy tent tonight

Since the Cali Dream and Strawberry Lemonade pics have been on this grow I thought I’d show how I did them since I have nothing to add to the scrog grow right now (they just fattening up really)

Again, these were not scrogged, I just put them under a screen to expose more bud sites at flower. These are the 3rd and 4th plants I’ve tried this on with great success.

This is a GDP that’s 5wks old. This morning I just started laying down the colas growing from node one. I let them grow naturally until the 6th node was about 1/2” tall then I topped above the 4th node, removed everything below node 3 then LST’d nodes 3 and 4 out wide. It’s basically a double manifold leaving the upward growth at nodes 2 and 4 as with the the PPP method. Once all four branches get 7 nodes I’m topping them back to the 5th nodes then basically keep everything low as shown. I may end up removing a couple of the upward growth because it makes a messy center but that’s a while away. Until then just keeping it low so it’s easier to get under a screen later.

Thought I’d add that when I train plants this way, I remove the fan leaves in the center of the plant to get light to those colas once the main branches get enough leaves at the ends. As you can see, all 4 fan leaves have been removed from node 1, I left the upward growing colas at node 2 then removed all node two fan leaves. Now that node 3’s fan leaves are getting big and in the way I’ll remove them in a couple of days. See how bushy the ends of each branch are? Once there’s enough leaves out there to gather light/energy you can remove the inner fan leaves and your plant won’t even notice. We want all colas getting equal light and as close to the same size as possible.

Another trick I do is this. Say the cola on the left of a node is outgrowing the cola on the right side of the same node. I’ll turn the smaller cola towards the light snd cover the bigger cola with a leaf until the smaller one catches up. Doesn’t take long

Oh btw, I’m old school, I still veg under T5’s. I personally don’t think they can be beat for veg. Plants love the heat and the range of light they produce. I don’t put my lights under the Electric Sky’s until 2wks before flower.

It’s day 30 since first sign of flower and we’re starting to see the fruits of our labor. All the buds on each plant start slightly below the screens and average about the size of a Bic lighter. The shot from above shows we’re looking at a lot of Bic lighters 😁

Remember these are in 3 gallon pots with a short veg time. Using 5 gallon and up or hydro with a longer veg will produce bigger buds.

The whole reason I wanted to show this type of technique is because you really can’t screw it up. A lot of home growers seem to struggle with yield for whatever reason but if you grow this way you’ll get results. As long as your plant is healthy and you don’t start topping/training too early it’s nearly fool proof

As I was watering the vegging plants today I saw a picture perfect example to explain this technique and the reasoning for it. A lot of growers for whatever reason seem to miss how to actually use a screen or net to increase their yield. Excuse my crappy artwork but this was easier for me than using a pc.

If a plant is grown vertical then all those bud sites will hopefully turn into dense nuggets. Some bud sites that get more light may even grow off the main stem and develop their own side branching but the buds will never become actual tops. You know, the big dense fat sparkly buds we all marvel at.

Growing a plant horizontal under a screen changes this structure. Now as the stem grows out towards the edge of the screen, all those bud sites are exposed to direct light with nothing overtop of them. This allows them to grow into colas instead of just bud sites. Now instead of these bud sites just being a nice nuggets, they’re tops. Starting out, if nothing else, I guarantee this will increase your bud quality. Say goodbye to fluffy larf or harvesting a plant in stages because the lower stuff isn’t mature yet. Once you get the hang of it and your growing a screen full of fat tops the yields will come. Quality is a given.

With this GDP you can see I now have 5 colas growing out instead of just bud sites down on the stem. As these get bigger they’ll develop their own bud sites/colas. Earlier in the tutorial when I was talking about allowing the little stuff to grow up, these bud sites circled are exactly what I was referring to. Now remember, the fan leaves have been removed in this pic. The bud site is the growth the comes up at a angle between the stem and fan leaves.

Day 38 and the buds are starting to fatten up, I’ll start feeding molasses this week. They’re already super frosty, GG has the WW beat as far as frostiness goes so far.

The other plants are on day 53 and the Dos Si Dos could go now if I wanted to take her down. She’s about 20% amber, going for 30-40% with no hurry. The Cali Dream and Strawberry Lemonade have another 2wks probably.

The Cali Dream is massive. I don’t weigh my grows, I just go by how many jars I fill but I may actually weigh her. I’m guessing she’ll provide around 8oz of nugs which is insane considering she’s 1 of 5 plants in the tent running about 495w. I had to bring the plants into the flower tent in stages this grow and never went above 75% on the dial.
