    Scrog, should I start flowering?

I'm a newbie on my second grow, or maybe third if you want to count the one auto ive harvested lol, while harvesting my first I got the bright idea to reveg one of them and see what happened. While she was revegging I got the even brighter idea to try scrog with her and a reveg clone I took off one of the first batch. 8 weeks and some heat strain, and recently a couples weeks of defoiliation, later im pretty happy with the way they are growing.

My only question is when should I flip them? The net is nearly full from the main shoots or lower shoots reaching the screen and with a 9 week flowering period im not sure how much stretch this small box can accommodate before i run into light burn issues.

Unfortunately I didnt pay enough attention to the stretch the first grow and the breeder doesn't provide that info as far as I can find (orange romulawi by eq genetics), it is a sativa dominant hybrid.

What do yall think i should do? Flip em to flower? wait till the nets totally full then flip? Or something else?

Looking at the distance from plant to light and availability of room to raise the light if it were me I'd flip them to flower now. But then I'm only on my 4th (reveg) and 5th (clones) grows so personal knowledge of the stretch in flower is still limited.

You should’ve used a bigger screen. Flip now, the idea is to fill the screen during the stretch, not before. The majority of the articles you’ll read on a ScrOG tell you to use way too small of a screen imo. I can veg a plant for 4wks in a 3 gallon pot and fill a 24”x24 screen easy. Some strains could use a even bigger one

      6 in a 4’x4’ would be perfect

since im making the screen myself, just how wide do you think the space between the wires should be when im making the screen for the big box?

honestly, they were just what the dispensary had on hand not my first choice though thats only because they dont have any crosses with strains i prefer

I don’t grow multiple plants under the same screen and I don’t even like to grow a single plant under a fixed screen. It makes plant maintenance a pain in the ass when they can’t be moved. I take plant rings (7” for 2-3 gallon pots and 10” for 5-7 gallon) insert them into the pot then lay a piece of garden fencing on top then zip tie it to the ring. Over the years this is what I’ve found to be the best way to grow a plant under a screen. You can move your plants around and if I need to work on one I can pull it from the tents one pics and sit it on a table eye level. Plus it’s a pain cone harvest with multiple strains under one screen when they don’t mature together.

Anyways here’s some pics of what I got going. The small plant is a Purple Kush and they’re fairly small and compact so I have it in a 3 gallon under a 12”x14” screen. I don’t expect it to stretch much so I’ll flip it once they all grow out one more square. The bigger plant is a Chocolope and they’re supposed to get huge so I’m going to grow it under a 18”x36” screen. I just put it in a 5 gallon pot yesterday and just have the ring in the pot now so I’m using it to make it grow out. It’ll probably go in the flower tent Wednesday and I doubt the screen will be big enough but that’s all the room I could spare.

I used to only grow under screens when yield was a concern but now I only use them to control height or when a little booger like the Purple Kush won’t spread out. If you put a screen a few inches on top of it there’s no choice.

thats interesting, i had considered doing something similar my next scrog but wasnt sure how it would work. my biggest hesitation in doing scrog in my big box was the inability to move the plants, and having to work around a 4 foot by 4 foot mega screen good to know its not only a viable idea but a good one, think thats what ill be doing just as soon as i repot my next batch. thanks!

No problem. I cut the screens a few inches smaller than the space bc it makes them easier to move around and you can always let it grow past the screen if needed.
