    SOIL A question about pH.

    Hi all,
I've had a ph pen for awhile now but calibration solutions took a while to turn up. I've since calibrated my pen and my water from the tap is 7.8. I give nutes every other feeding. The nutes I'm using is biobizz grow which drops ph down to 6.5 - 6.8. My soil ph also stays pretty stable at 6.5 - 6.8. My question is this, should I use ph down on the water when I'm not giving nutes and its reading 7.8? My gut feeling is to carry on doing as I'm doing as my plants look healthy and are not showing any signs of deficiency or ph issues. I don't feed nutes every watering as last time I did i noticed a touch of nute burn on a couple of leaf tips about 8hrs after.

Always keep you water at your current PH level. PH issues are something you want to avoid at all costs. While they can be corrected to some degree by flushing, any damage is permanent. There is no reason to create this problem for yourself.

Thanks for reply. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing then. I was just a bit concerned about water going in at 7.8 but like I've said I don't seem to be getting any issues fingers crossed.

I always alter ph even when using plain water.

Unless you are growing in living soil always ph what goes into the pot. With soil you can get away with more than hydro or coco but not indefinitely.

Thanks all for the replies much appreciated. I'll start adjusting my water from now. Just wanted to be sure to get it right and straighten a few other things out before I switch to flower which I'm hoping will be soon but haven't fully decided when yet.

Nutrients will not be available at that high of reading, 7.8 Ph. Do get a handle on that before it raises the Ph of the soil too much.

Thanks, I will do. Soil ph was another of my concerns with the level of the water ph going in and I guess I've been lucky in that it's stayed 6.5 - 6.8. I do have a chart downloaded for different nutrients and the ph range for each
