    Mistakes or bad luck?

I only had 2 of 3 sprout. Here’s what I did. Took 2 NLxBB autos from expert seeds and 1 random auto. Put in lukewarm water and sat next to my modem for 14hrs. Transferred to to paper towels between two solid plates under an incan. light for warmth until they popped out tap root. Dropped into 18oz clear solos filled with plain potting soil with 1/3 pearlite about an inch deep and put into tent under 60w cfl and kept soil moist. Day 2 rando sprouted and day 3 first NL sprouted. Been about a week and second NL still hasn’t shown so I’m guessing she’s not going to. Only thing I didn’t do was dome them. Is this just a case of crap happens or is it on me? I will say that I won’t order from expert seeds again, I’ll be looking at sweet seeds and fast buds for my next order, these seemed super small unless auto fem seeds are way smaller than regular bag seed (which are all I’ve ever seen until now).

I wouldn't give up on that last one yet, but I read on here someplace that clear cups are not a good idea. Lots of stuff lives in dirt that likes light. Some of it isn't very good for seedlings. Good luck!

Thanks. I haven’t totally given up on no. 3, I still have been keeping her damp.
I definitely didn’t know about the clear cup thing. I went out of my way to get clear because my thought was being a first timer I could make sure not to get root bound since this way I could see them, I never considered that letting light in would cause something bad to grow.

Not to mention that roots do not like light - they like oxygen.

I have heard that you should never use clear but I use the liners out of a small cup gun for painting and they have worked very well for me. But yes you can get algae ect if you leave them in there for too long. Mine stay in for 10days max then the go to their final pots.

Xena , I'm new too. We've all gone out of our way at one time or another - and sometimes it's way out there, lol. My roots tell me when they are ready to level-up by sticking out of the holes in the bottom. I transplanted 4" to 1gal a week ago, and already roots peeking out. So into 5gal this weekend.
    I live to transplant stuff.

Wait, you put them ~1" deep into/under the ground/surface? How many popped tap roots? I think that is to deep, I have always used twice the size of the seed whatever it is.

Yes I put them about one knuckle deep which is somewhere between 3/4 and 1 inch. From my research I thought that was a “standard” depth.
        All three had popped taps.
I was thinking about going a little shallower next go, I was wondering if that might have been my problem with no. 3 not showing. Thanks for the depth input.

Xena I also use clear cups, but then I put the clear cup into the same size red solo to block the light and can take a quick peek at the roots any time I want. Just make sure to align the drain holes in both cups and you'll be good to go. Also you can just invert a clear cup on top for a rh dome

Thank you, I was thinking of putting mine in solid color cups since I still have a while before transplant.
