Is your soil moist top inch if it is that should be fine you need to let your soil to dry out before watering again to allow oxygen to get to roots. How does your seedling look if its growing well looking healthy your doing it right. I made the mistake of watering to often and not allowing my soil to dry out which lead to overwatering but after advise on here things got back on track

I wouldnt water again yet just let it dry some more your seedling will be putting roots out in it home if you give it to much water you will drown her. You could drill or poke a few small holes around the sides of your pot will help with drainage and allow air to soil. Your seedling looks good. Have you checked your ph of water? Just let the soil dry top 2 inches i would say before watering again. Someone else might be along to give you more better advise good thing about being on here alot of knowlegable people on here. Your plant will tell you if somethings wrong just keep checking on her and come back here if you have problems

I always presoak the medium before popping my seeds so it’s damp but not wet (remember that for next time😉) For now, spray it with a mister twice a day, morning and evening, just enough to keep the top of the soil moist. In about a week it should start growing it’s 3rd set of leaves at which point it’ll begin growing faster. Once that happens you can start actually watering it around the base once a day, just enough to keep the soil moist. The main thing right now is to not drown it. After 2wks it should be growing steadily everyday and will need watered every 2-3 days. I lift the pot and go by weight. If it’s really light I water to runoff, if it’s not light I don’t water.
FYI always start in a cup (even autos) I prefer 8oz styrofoam cups because styrofoam is a insulator and I feel it keeps the roots warmer. A small cup is easier to water a small seedling properly. In 10-14 days, depending on how fast the plant is growing, I move it into a bigger pot. 2 or 3 gallon for a auto, 1 gallon for photosLast edited by bboyfromwayback; 08-20-2020, 11:05 AM.

For seedlings you only need like a shot of water a day until the plants roots spread out and it has a couple sets of true leaves. After that water with just barely any runoff as doing too much runoff will wash nutes out of soil. then wait for pot to be super light then water again. I dont use moisture meters as they are finicky in my experience. There is no standard system of use as you say. Every plant is different and will drink at different rates. Also, IMO that soil looks like it has poor draining. I would add some perlite to get more oxygen to your roots. As your pic is now i wouldnt water until the pot is completely dry and leaves start to droop as the medium looks soaked and without adequate drainage and airflow if you keep watering a wet pot your plant could get root issues and die.
