I'm sure this has been asked countless times but here it is again. My plants are in early flower and I've been clipping leaves as they grow and cover bud sites, I am careful not to take too many. Does this shock the plant and slow growth?

And you see them grow back in spades, right? That's what they do in early flower. Here's what Nebula has to say about defol. in flowering stage:
Controversial defoliation can increase your yields dramatically indoors... but removing leaves is for advanced growers only! When done wrong, defoliation can kill your plants!
and keep scrolling down cuz there's another section on defol. during flowering stage.Anyone can grow schwag. If you want to grow top shelf bud, study hard: https://www.growweedeasy.com

I think the official number is 30% within the first 3 weeks of flower you can yank without worry. In early flower you will actually stimulate the plant to divert energy to those bud sites. Once you're into flower far enough it won't produce more leaves so be careful you don't strip it naked

I `m into very heavy defoliating and defol every 6-10 days upto the end of flowering...if your plants are use to this then the shock factor is minimal if at all however if you`ve just been doing fairly light defol...fans here and there when covering you can keep going easily until leaf production stops. When it stops, your buds will still remain in the light and you shouldn`t need to remove. Other growers prefer to tuck under...there is also debate about whether you reduce nutes if you remove leaves but my thoughts are a) If you chop someone`s arm off and they`re in hospital, you don`t feed them less as there`s less of them b) that since cannabis is subject to animal munching in the wild, nutes from the soil can compensate, to a degree a lot of leaf loss...anyway, went off at a tangent..be mellow

I start defoliating when I start LST-ing and I also don`t chop the tops of either...feel that it slows an already slow process down so by week 3 of veg roughly I will start quite heavy to train the plant to accept as normal and take any defoliating in her path as run of the mill and to be expected. However, this is not to everyone`s liking but check this out as well as Nebula`s....both are excellent source references...http://www.growweedeasy.com/marijuan...ation-tutorial

I read that defoliation tutorial and others, and I have taken a few leaves off the bottom and liked how the tops reacted but im going to be confused a bit until I actually do it more. Hands on learner I guess Lol. I have topped these as the scrog tutorial here described but yeah everything stopped! Their starting to grow now. I might just keep my first grow more simple. I have six girls. I will try some light leaf but im not sure what to twist and pull yet. Everyone talks about leaf removal in flower. None really shows about early veg training ..
