    HELP! When to harvest??

Hi folks, first post on here so be gentle.

with the recent covid stuff going on in the world and the fact that there’s more important thing for police to worry about than someone doing a 1 plant grow, I decided to take the plunge and start one from the seeds I’d bought years ago when I nearly plucked up the courage, but chickened out in the end.

so without wanting to go spending silly amounts on a full setup, I decided to first see if the seeds would even germinate and take it from there.

I’ve watched many of videos over the years, especially as more and more has been available on YouTube. I decided that I would go with the method of placing them in a cup of water for a day, then 2 days in a damp warm kitchen towel folded up and placed in a zip-lock bag and stored for 2 days in a dark place.

this is where I know you guys will start raising eyebrows and being like “Bruuhh..!!! 👀” But... I don’t know, I guess I kind of never expected it to work for one reason another, then when it did I was like “damnn 😬”. So, I bought a standard bag of soil mix from the shops, something you’d plant veg in, so Atleast food safe if anything. I mixed that about 70/30 with Perlite and popped the seed in a small pot and put it under an old bathroom fixture that had a 28W 2D CFL type bulb.

To my surprise the plant done rather well, I watched the nodes pop-up, one after the other and I found some 10W LED spotlights I’d found in a cupboard that had never been used. I also found a 38W bulb for the bathroom light fitting. So with the 3 lights pretty much within a 8-10” distance from the plant, I watched her come along quite the thing. Once a few weeks in, I, again waiting on eyebrows... but I put some tomato feed into the water and done this about once every fortnight. Another sketchy fact is that the plant has always been fed good old Scottish tap water, no fancy ph levelling kits, no temp adjustment or leaving it to sit for 24hrs etc.

the seeds were popped into the cup on 1st April,
the seeds were from ‘Freedom Seeds’
    the Strain is ‘Big Easy’
the website claims its an indoor or outdoor variety and has a 9 week cycle.
I’m guessing the plant is about ready to chop,
some of the trichomes are turning amber, lots are milky and some are clear.

the plant is only around 75cm tall and in comparison to, well, any YouTube video ever, I’m probably looking at the smallest of them all, but it was merely a test grow.

ive attached some pictures, I’d be keen to hear anyone’s thoughts on when I should be looking to chop her down and hang her up.?

hope everyone is safe through this tough time and thank you in advance for taking the time out to read this post.

    peace,

Good job ! First harvest is also nerve wracking 😂👍🏻

So when I look at the trichomes / - I would give it 7 days more . But! This is my preference! And you will get a lot of different opinions here. So I really think it’s up to you.
you are definitely in the harvest window
Just because people are over 50 doesn’t mean they know everything.
You can teach a old dog new tricks - But it will still think the old ways are the “best” lol

Great Job!! Yer a wiley Scotsman, but now is the hard part - waiting another week. She looks a bit early, but I tend to err on the side of too early vs. too late. I would concur with the Cap'n on this one - give her a week more make sure you dry and cure properly!
Harvesting cannabis at the right time is just as important as how you grow the plant. Harvest marijuana buds too soon and you lose potency and yields; too late and you can end up making a batch of sleep medicine. Learn how to harvest at the perfect time, every time! Here's what you need...

This tutorial teaches you the best way to dry and cure cannabis buds after harvest, which greatly increases bud quality. Quality drying/curing ensures the best smelling, most dense and highest potency marijuana buds!

Thanks guys for the support and the information. Such a quick reply too. Seems this community really is just that... a community! I think based on personal preference I’ll go for another 3-4 days from now, I don’t want to leave it too late and end-up a couch potato 😂

captainwiese91 - you’re not joking about the first grow being nerve wracking, as yous can see, I didn’t top her either, That was again due to the fear something would go wrong. For my next grow I’m thinking of ‘Mainlining’. I’ve been researching on it and I’d like to give it a bash and do some comparisons.

F10werChyld - thanks for the links, some good information there, appreciated!

420chicano - why thanks 😊, it’s been a stressful couple of months, but she’s nearly there. Yeah, I’m thinking of going with the 4 days and try get the best of both worlds out her hopefully. The next part gives me the slight fear, the harvest, I’ve got my method already in the back of my mind, chop her at the base, remove big fan leaves, hang her and I’m opting for the ‘dry trim’ method. Only thing that worries me is I don’t have a dehumidifier or a humidifier, so getting a Rh of 50-60% is going to be a challenge. I have a Rh/Temp sensor (in one of the pics). Do you guys think I could introduce a bowl of boiled/steaming water near the dry area if the levels drop too low/dry. And put heating/ open windows and introduce a fan if it’s getting too moist?

something else I’d be keen to know guys is... what methods of induced stress do yous opt for at the end of her cycle, do yous leave her in the dark for a couple days, drill the base of her stem, split stalk, remove leaves etc? Would be keen to hear of anyone’s thoughts or processes on extra Trichome production through end of life severe stress

as always stay safe folks, may your gardens flourish ✌️

Thanks for the help guys. That’s my girl chopped tonight after 48hrs of darkness. Some of the buds aren’t very mature, the bottom ones. But the top of the plant is 70/30amber.

hopefully a week or two of drying and then some curing.

One thing I’d like to ask.... is it common for someone plant to have a slight fecal smell to it.?? When touched, there’s lovely citrus notes, but when I go in the room is smells like crap... literally..!

photo’s not the best. But this is my harvest, chopped at the base, hung upside down and a Rh sensor nearby...

Hahaha, yeah I thought the same guys... I’ve never personally had that aroma around weed before, but, never grown it either. When I go near the plant or touch the buds it smells lovely. Just the room in general doesn’t smell great, it gets aired, is clean, no pets, nothing dead or dying lol. Honestly stuck on what it could be. She’s drying away nicely, I’ve got a Rh fluctuating between 50/60%, is this too much, or will this allow for a better slower drying?

thanks again for the help and time for reading the post
