HELP! Carbon Filter w/ Inline fan?

Hey guys. So as I walked into the grow room this morning, I could smell a hint of what's to come. I need to get the smell under wrap before it gets out of hand, but I'm not sure what type of carbon filter or fan, especially with my size tent.

    Size: 2x2x4 feet

My plant jist enter flowering so it will be stretching as well, so I'll have maybe a foot left of space at the top of tent. What size carbon filter should I get? And fan? Also, I don't know if I'll have space for ducting inside the tent. Is it possible to get the benefits of a filter without ducting?

4” fan and filter would be plenty for that size tent. You can also put the fan and filter on the outside of the tent to save space. It’s not the ideal setup but it works.

I'm looking up bundles of a 4 inch filter w/exhaust fan. I see a few that say activated charcoal? There's a good bundle for 119 with all 3 items.

If odor is an issue, dont skimp on your fan/filter. How many plants are in your tent? Do you plan on growing again and expanding? After two attempts with 4" fan/filter systems i up'ed to a 6" LARGE combo that can handle anything i throw at it...so far. Im not telling you to spend more money, but these are things you should take into account. In a stealth grow i think the fan/filter is second on the NEED list right behind lights.

That's why I suggested the DIY. 10x the filter - 1/10 the price.

i think by the time you got the DIY system tuned in if it actually worked..the cardboard box would have turned to mush..and its a little more complicated than filling a box with 10lbs of charcoal and pushing air over it. The air needs to pass thru the charcoal. thats why most filters are cylindrical so they can fit a smaller cage inside to hold a barrier of charcoal. I'v looked at square ones but their big money. Just buy a good fan/filter combo and if you dont want to grow again, you can sell it with your tent and lights.

I dont see how the box could turn to mush but if you're right then a wooden one wouldn't be hard to build. You dont push air over it- you push n pull it through a dispersing filter then the charcoal. You could even make the chambers you describe. It WOULD need 2 fans but still more cost effective..... & way more effective. You could even layer the charcoal with dryer sheets for triple or quadruple protection.

got the idea, would work, but need some kind of screens above and below charcoal medium, Wooden box would work(screen walls, with another box same idea 2"smaller. Fill the space inbetween with charcoal, solid top and bottom and force air thru that...or buy a filter..lol

How is running two fans more cost effective? And dryer sheets? just buy a good filter.

Fans don't cost more'n a few bucks a month to run for one & the price of a store bought that would perform at the same level would be pretty pricey. & yes dryer sheets. They'll mask damn near any smell.

Wow you guys have been active! Haha. Although DIY is always fun, I plan to get a real filter. I don't mind investing. As of now I only have 1 plant, but yes I do plan to continue growing.

That $119 bundle isn’t bad. The fan should last years. I replace my carbon filters after 3 grows just to be safe.

I use the 4inch inline, and it works great. I will replace the carbon filter this year (About two years old). I will change the mounting (Need more room for the lights) to an outside unit. I increase the speed of the fan as the grow matures, keeps the smell down and when I burn one in the shop it also sucks it up and cleans the smell.
